These tech billionaires are investing in space companies and going places NASA is too cumbersome to venture. In the next few years you are going to see private manned space flights; some orbital and some suborbital.

The reason they are landing the boosters is so they can reuse them. Reuse helps bring the cost of space launches way down.

It's not just Elon Musk. Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos also has a rocket company. He has spent $500 million of his own money on his project, which currently is focusing on developing space tourism. His Blue Origin rocket also returns to land on its tail:



I wonder if the makers of those old 1950s science fiction movies ever thought that rocket ships would one day really land on their tails like those fake models did in the movies they made?  Razz
