You do realize, don't you, that the majority of Americans struggling to stay an inch above bankruptcy don't own any stocks? It's the 1% who get hurt when the market free falls. I love it!!

I have not owned a stock in four years.......biggest racket in the world, but in that casino the little guy Never wins. In 1981 my Father in law was getting 14% on his five year cds, today a retired person is lucky to get three percent in a safe investment......America has been stolen.

T must be a one percent then cause when the dotcom burst I had to significantly change my retirement plans. I am fairly sure there are still millions of 401ks in dire jeopardy...

You make a valid point that I should have considered. But realize the sudden crashes of the stock market aren't the product of your business decisions or mine -- unless you are among the bloodsucking ultra rich industrial and financial "deciders." As with the housing market that crashed, it wasn't our fault our home values sank. It was Wall Street's!!

Go Bernie, go!

While many companies no longer provide pensions, many do offer 401Ks, which are heavily invested in stocks.  Many Americans' accounts, much more than "the 1%", are impacted by the ups and downs of the stock market. For many workers, they can ride out this turbulence because they are years (decades even) away from retirement. Those unfortunate to need to access their retirement accounts at the time of a downturn are hurt most - (remember the Enron scandal that led to billions lost in employee pensions).

My IRA is largely invested in stock and bond mutual funds. I am still letting it ride, but will start taking distributions from it possibly in 2017, but for sure in 2018. My IRA is not huge in any respect, but is still significantly larger than the national average.

My wife has two very small IRAs invested in CDs, and she does not know this yet, but we are going to deplete hers before hitting mine.

Who owns the United States Federal Reserve Bank? From whence come our Secretaries of the Treasury? Whose interests does the US Governmnent's economic and monetary policies really serve? Are the foxes watching the henhouse?
