I find it fascinating that several members of the billionaire class are privately funding space launch ventures. Elon Musk has SpaceX, Bezos has Blue Origin, and Richard Branson has Virgin Galactic. It was Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen who funded the first successful private sub-orbital human space-flight effort to win the Ansari X prize in 2004.
Bezos' Blue Origin will send 6 people on a suborbital trip to space. The capsule separates and parachutes back, while the booster flies back for a vertical landing so it can be re-used. He plans on scaling the booster up so it can send the capsule into orbit.
