BTW, Truman relieved macarthur of command before you entered the theatre. You said it yourself how you weren't even in until Korea was over. How could you have lived in a foxhole under his command when he was gone before you even made it on the scene?

Let's see, the thread is about War Hero's groveling for more pay for the military, and you twist it to show hard times in Venezuela. I suppose, if I were as desperate as you, I could string together a few dozen shots of shuttered, empty American factories, where American workers used to make decent livings -- until the bloodsucking corporate bosses you adore said "fuck America, let's get our stuff built in Bangladesh." I joined the Air National Guard before I enlisted in the regular AF, at a time when the shooting was still going on, and MacArthur was still at the helm. I was bound and determined to do whatever was necessary to avoid getting my ass shot off in a meaningless, tragic war between Soviet Russia and the U.S. trying to piss higher on the telephone pole than their opponents. While you are too young to remember, by the end of the Korean Conflict, the American will to fight that interminable war was shrinking fast. Ike was elected on his promise to bring it to an early conclusion. By 1953 Thousands of boys in high schools across the country were trying to figure out how to beat the draft board. I chose the Air Force.

The pity is, that idiots like you are proud of being victimized. Given the choice of free university education for all, or another unwinnable, endless and meaningless war in pursuit of our "national interests," I'll take the free education route, thank you. We should cut the military budget 70%, and just to be fair to victims like you, we should put 20% of the money we'd save into creating a Veterans Administration that truly serves sick people like you.

Aw I see why you didn't get elected.

Yep. I told the truth as I do here. I went to the police chief association and told them that every ho dunk community was building jails and adding personnel and higher officers which was wasteful and made the communities in the three county area less safe. I wanted consolidation on smaller communities with the County Sheriff cutting down the administrative costs. I wanted consolidation and streamlining, and this was before 911 and they freaked that I would as an elected official call for reductions and streamlining. I was running as a Republican and I argued we criticize the Democrats in Washington for this kind of duplication and waste, but we act like Democrats on the local level. Needless to say, I did not get the endorsement from the organizations, but one after the other police chief came to me saying I was right in private. Did not give a rat's tail about winning if that meant lying to get elected. I was not a good politician. I came in third of four candidates. I doubt I could ever be elected because the truth is not what voters want to hear......they act like they are tired of politician BS, but they keep voting the liars into office.

Partially true.  The person who won was the best candidate, and I said the same on the campaign trail, and he happened to be a friend where our kids played baseball together and his son eventually played in the NFL.  A good man who deserved to win and he did a very good job.  The voters voted for the best man for that job.  It was exciting being on TV and doing interviews and standing up and speaking to crowds about issues.  I loved it.  I was asked to run for other offices, but I understood that I was not a good politician.  I said what I meant despite the consequences it would have on my success as a politician.  My friend just retired after 20 years of doing a good job.  The voters were right.
