Apparently, 65% of Escambia County school children qualify for either free or reduced-price lunches.
No freebies like that when I was in school. When I was in grammar school, lunch was $.0.25, and an ice cream cone afterward was $0.10. My mom would give me $1.35 for the week. That was enough for 5 lunch tickets and one ice cream ticket for the week. Breakfast was not offered then.
