This is brilliant.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) wants to make election a day a holiday, suggesting that it could make it easier to vote.

Sanders, who is running for the Democratic presidential nomination, has introduced a proposal that would amend the U.S. code to include "Federal Election Day, the Tuesday following the first Monday in November in each even-numbered year," according to the legislation.

The Vermont senator said at a rally last week that the legislation would make sure everyone who wants to vote has the time to, and "would indicate a national commitment to create a vibrant democracy."
The legislation is part of a package of proposals that Sanders is offering aimed at voting and campaigns. He's also introduced legislation that would automatically register 18-year olds to vote, and said last week that he intends to offer legislation that would allow public financing of campaigns.

The proposals come as Democrats rallied around the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, and doubled down on their call for lawmakers to "restore" the legislation after a key provision was struck down by the Supreme Court.

Senility seems to be influencing Socialist Bernie Sanders already and apparently you as well.

Why do we need election day as a holiday?

That pretty much renders any of your post impotent.

Mr. Markle commenting on senility......impotence.......we just cannot make this stuff  up, but America has very low voter turn outs compared to other nations.  If a holiday gets more Americans to vote and become engaged, it is a good thing.  Russia, middle east nations, and african nations are the only nations below America where we are 120th out of 169 nations tracked since 1945 for voter turnouts.

Once again, you refused to answer the question.

WHY do we need election day as a holiday? Neither you nor Bernie Sanders can give a reasonable explanation.

Of course we have low voter turnout. Voting, and peaceful government transitions have been taking place in our country for nearly 250 years. Most Americans couldn't tell you how many justices are on the Supreme Court nor could they name even one of the justices. They don't know how many branches our government has much less why. Heck, semi-retired President Obama doesn't even know that.

So they don't care if they vote or not.

I was in a small government building the other day and the clerk got to talking to me about taxes and she said ya know Obama had a million people at his inauguration and only 14 missed work that day..

What semi-demented poster Markle is implying is that he favors a return to voter literacy testing. He likely would have opposed extending the vote to women, back in the day.

After all, less voters = more Republican chances. He is also likely very happy that the GOP controlled Florida legislature did everything it could to thwart implementation of the 2010 Fair Districts Amendment that the voters approved.

Authoritarian fascism = Markle's game.

The idea Semi sane "I know NOSSING! Markle, is to make it easier for everyone to vote -- particularly those with daytime jobs. But, of course, anything that would help minorities, college students and poor workers vote -- the sign of a good participating American citizen by the way -- is an obvious threat to hard right corporate stooges like you.

Screw Amerika Inc. Control of our government through campaign financing.

Do something good for America -- help get money out of politics!

Go Bernie, Go!!

Yes lets be like all communist nations where voting is a forced chore and only one party is represented

Wow! That's a radical change. It seems that no matter what you do it's wrong. So now you want voting to be mandatory and, I assume, only the republican party will be represented. That has as much chance of becoming reality as me becoming a Christian.

Dear Consistently Wrong: What Bernie is doing is promising the working class a fair opportunity at the American dream.

Your brethren hate everyone except the ultra rich.

JEB promises to cut healthcare for women. Rubio promises to help kill women who are pregnant and who will die if they continue the pregnancy. Trump has savaged all Latinos. Huckabee promises a return to the middle ages. And the remaining 53,468 candidates nod yes emphatically whenever a hard right whacko issue -- like gay marriage or gays adopting children comes up.

The thing is, my stupid, PTSD friend, elections are about winning voters not chasing them away. I know that's a concept a bridge too far for old shot-up, brainless warriors like you. But I can't help trying .... LOL

Dear Semi-sane Markle: Tell us why it's better for America to not make election day more accessible to workers, and people in minority districts whose voting places are purposefully understaffed in order to make the waiting time in line insufferable. We're all ears.

Here's a good compromise -- take Easter and Xmas off the holiday list and let people vote. Whadya' say buddy?

None of the dem candidates have the broad appeal or the secured voting blocks that obama enjoyed.

Give the Republican primary a little more time to work on that.

Howard Dean said on Morning Joe today that Biden doesn't connect with younger voters and since younger voters are driving the democratic vote, Dean thinks Biden's candidacy would be a non-starter.

So all that leaves is the scandal-ridden woman and the avowed "socialist".

So even if the republican side is a clown show, I really don't understand all the optimism on the part of you democrats. lol

How does Dean think Hillary or Sanders connect with younger voters? Same era.

Photos: Over 27,000 Berners Rally For Bernie Sanders In Los Angeles

BY JEAN TRINH IN NEWS ON AUG 11, 2015 10:05 AM

"It was a packed house last night with over 27,000 "Berners" supporting Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders cheering, chanting and stomping in support of his campaign rally in Los Angeles.

The energy level at the L.A. Memorial Sports Arena was high. LAist's photographer, Perhansa Skallerup said it was on par with a "popular Christian rock concert." A campaign spokesperson told Variety that since the arena could only hold 17,500, the rest of the people who showed up to the rally were in an overflow area outside that had giant TV screens projected the rally. The crowd was a mix of young college-aged folks, older hippies, and a largely white turnout, though there were also Latinos, Asians and blacks in the crowd. People held signs like "Feel the Bern" and "Shine Bright Like A Bernie," and there were others with "Black Lives Matters" shirts and signs.

Sanders' rally even trotted out a celebrity. Comedian Sarah Silverman introduced him to the stage. "I give you, if we’re all very smart and a little bit lucky, the next president of the United States," Silverman said as the crowd erupted in applause..."

It's obvious that you didn't bother reading the nyt link. Bernie is largely bolstered my white left coasters.

Good luck comrade.

Bernie is wildly popular with millennials. Should he make it past Clinton, the general election will be a landslide.

Either way, the election will be a landslide. People will continue to become less inclined to vote for stupid as the information age continues to take hold. Prescribing the same treatment (tax cuts, war, and oppression of women and LGBT community by way of religion) for every ailment no longer works when people have access to the degree of information that is available to us today. And this will continue to get worse for republicans. Evolve or die. Playing the role of a broken record is no longer an option.

It's so funny you mention that. Because Scarborough wasn't on the tv set this morning (they showed him throwing out the first ball at a Wahoos game last night) and Scarborough would have probably asked Dean that question.
But Mika and the rest of the cast failed to ask it.
I was asking it too while I was watching. Wish someone had made him explain that.

I'll take a stab at it though.

I think Sanders is to the younger democratic voter demographic what Trump is to the older republican version of it.

I think this whole election has shown us both sets of the populace are tired of the political status quo.
One group sees Sanders as an alternative to that. The other Trump.

How?

We have early voting and no excuse voting in most states.

Early voting is similar to "no-excuse" absentee voting. In many U.S. states the period varies between four and fifty days prior to Election Day. Early voting in person is allowed with no excuse required in 33 U.S. states and in the District of Columbia (D.C.). Absentee voting by mail with no excuse is allowed in 27 states and D.C.. In 20 states, an excuse is required. No-excuse permanent absentee voting is allowed in 6 states and in D.C.. 3 states, Oregon, Washington and Colorado, conduct all elections by mail.[11]
