On one side you have the patriotic, Christian fundamentalist nutcases who want to wrap America's foundations in the stars and stripes, mom and apple pie. Their selective history of America, which praises justice, equality and truth, always conveniently omits mentioning America's genocide against the land's native peoples, and the fact that the so-called purveyors of equality were supporters of slavery, and in many cases owned enslaved black people they purchased and controlled by barbaric means.
The facts are, America's foundations included elements that were noble as well as others that were pure evil. Our forefathers were no less flawed than our current leaders. The good news is that what's wrong with America can be corrected -- but that can't happen until most of us are willing to come out and flatly identify and expose the bullshit.
There was absolutely nothing noble or righteous about calling Native Americans "spawn of the devil." And nothing noble or righteous about pretending white people were or are superior to everyone else. Cornel West's interview targets the connection between genocidal barbarity, racism and American capitalism and imperialism.
It's my guess Semi-sane Markle and Peedawg -- er, demsuck, or Karl Rove, er... Obamasucks -- will hate every word. But then again, they and their kind represent the worst of America. Reality.
