Jobless claims remain at rock bottom levels, at a lower-than-expected 267,000 in the July 25 week vs an unrevised 42-year low of 255,000 in the prior week. The 4-week average is down 3,750 to a 274,750 level that is the lowest since mid-June.

Continuing claims, which are reported with a week's lag, rose 46,000 to 2.262 million while the 4-week average slipped 1,000 to 2.255 million. These are also very low readings. The unemployment rate for insured workers ticked 1 tenth higher to 1.7 percent.

There are no special factors in today's report though factory retooling often leads to volatility at this time of year. That aside, unemployment remains very low in this economy.

A record 93,626,000 Americans 16 or older did not participate in the nation’s labor force in June, as the labor force participation rate dropped to 62.6 percent, a 38-year low, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

He isn't interested in participating. Spouting bullshit and then running away is a more accurate description of what our forum republicans do here.

Any objective person would simply describe the economic results under President Obama as a stunning success.

Just pointing out the things you clearly ignore. Did you always do that or did you learn it in graduate school?

“It’s good that the economy actually grew rather than contracted in the second quarter but the fundamental story is still very much the same,” said Megan Greene, chief economist at Manulife Asset Management. “Businesses are not investing and we can continue to expect closer to 2 percent rather than 3 percent growth. And this is now the weakest expansion we have had in 70 years.”

It’s the kind of “meh” economy that will offer the Republican nominee a clear window to argue that Clinton will only offer more of the same policies favored by President Barack Obama that have left the electorate sour and pessimistic. The Commerce Department also reported Thursday that the economy grew only at a 2 percent rate between 2012 and 2014, a 0.3 percent decline from previous estimates and further evidence that this has been the weakest recovery of the modern era.

There is nothing weak about a long steady recovery.  A two to three percent GDP growth can only be increased to higher levels when we return tax rates and start rebuilding America and giving tax credits to return manufacturing to America.  The republican Congress blocks everything, and despite some traitors wanting to hurt America, President Obama has done a stunning job of growing this economy.  Not overheating and falling into another recession, the President and his economic policies have provided America a path to sanity.

Exactly how stupid are you, election-boy? I have probably created 648,642,975,999,123,456 threads on this forum specifically about the Labor Force Participation rate in an attempt egage any of you - any republican - on that subject; and yet here you are saying that I ignore the LPR? And then when Markle, TEO, Pacedog, etc create their 456,897,468,137,999 threads on the subject, I respond to them as well - only to see them all run away.

How do you see all of that and then arrive at the conclusion that I ignore the LPR? Seriously, random-internet-guy. I'm interested in hearing how you arrive at such a conclusion. Can you elaborate on that? Of course you can't.

Success is the worst expansion since WWII?

http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2015/07/30/the-worst-expansion-since-world-war-ii-was-even-weaker/?mod=WSJBlog

The economic expansion—already the worst on record since World War II—is weaker than previously thought, according to newly revised data.

From 2012 through 2014, the economy grew at an all-too-familiar rate of 2% annually, according to three years of revised figures the Commerce Department released Thursday. That’s a 0.3 percentage point downgrade from prior estimates
