My 15 year old dog which we put down last year was a lab/malmute mix. If you have ever had a malmute mix in the wild when there is deep snow......they hunt mice. It is a hoot to watch them bury their heads in the deep snow and plow looking for the mice. They did studies on arctic wolves and could not figure what they ate, and found out they survived by eating mice.
Well our pup lived with the older dog for about nine months and would run with her in the snow last year. Well I have been in Florida and just got to the islands and let her run.....and the german shepard/hound mix starting doing exactly what the Malmute had taught her last winter.....the same prancing....listening.....smelling, and then head dive into the snow. Nature over nurture can be modified.
