Expounding on some comments I made earlier to Wordslinger by posting these chapters from the New Testament of the Bible.

The account of Jesus' "sermon on the mount" and his teaching the disciples:

Matthew 5

Matthew 6

Matthew 7

Yes, it's one man's written account of what Jesus said but it's as close as we have since CNN wasn't there to record in 32 or 33 A.D. Very Happy

I have focused on Matthew 6 since I was in ninth grade and began to think independently of others. I do not see the need to go any further. It has guided me my entire life. I do not like people telling me what I should believe and interpreting what is said when I can read and understand without need of translation. Simple and complete in my mind. I have never met anyone who has argued effectively that Matthew 6 is not good guidance.

As to those who do not believe, not my problem because we are all connected, and only fools try to force their beliefs on free men and women.

I don't think anyone is arguing Matthew 6 is not good guidance. I don't even know what's in there. I'm sure it's all good. The argument is the belief in myths and superstitions in which people want to guide this country on and make laws based on it. Worship a gopher if you want just don't try to put that silliness on the people who can think for themselves.

Obviously you have problems with that. Follow those money-making movies.

Vikingwoman, it's not my intention to argue anything on this particular post. Just offering a source to read.

Shewrites:

Why would anyone who doesn't believe in this silliness want to read this drivel about his teachings? Do you really think this stuff is healthy to be told "do not worry about what you eat or drink or put in your body" for your father will reward you heaven? WTH? Why would anyone w/ half a brain believe this?

He is basically just saying not to worry. It's gotten my half a brain through some rough times..

Just goes to show the power of the mind. If you had been brought up believing a kumquat placed on the top of your head eased all your pain and woes that would have worked too.
