It is now necessary for the United States to substantially increase funding in two areas,” Fisher, the China military analyst said. “First the U.S. must expand and accelerate its own hypersonic weapons program.”
The Pentagon should fund several types of hypersonic systems in a development competition, Fisher said, as well as further research in counter-hypersonic arms.
Past Pentagon research has included development of both guided-but-unpowered glide vehicles, and high-technology scramjet-powered hypersonic vehicles.
A space plane called the X-37 also is being developed as part of a program known as conventional Prompt Global Strike.
US intelligence analysts have said the current Chinese Wu-14 program is currently part of its strategic nuclear program. However, China also could use the Wu-14 as part of its conventional strike program, such as planning attacks on aircraft carriers in the western Pacific.
“While missile based counter-systems may provide an early solution, there is much more potential in the realm of energy weapons,” Fisher said

Oh no not another gap !....what will we do ? oh yeah waste money....

Keep in mind that prior to the administration of President Bill Clinton, China had a difficult time hitting the Pacific Ocean with one of their missiles.

The Chinese made numerous, huge donations to the Clinton Campaign fund. As a token of his appreciation, he moved the oversight of the sale of rocket guidance systems and rocket engines to the department of commerce. There they could legally be sold to China.

Now they have proven that they can destroy a satellite in orbit and are hacking out computer systems apparently at ease. The happenings at Sony seem to confirm that North Korea can and is doing the same.

Meanwhile semi-retired President Obama has named his FOURTH Secretary of Defense in fewer than six years. The Middle East is on fire, against his promises, President Obama has returned troops to Iraq and is leaving more in Afghanistan longer than he had promised.

More proof, as if it were needed, that President Obama had no clue what he was doing when he took office and nothing has changed.

If you think the Chinese in the last twenty years needed help from anybody you have not been paying attention. It is your underestimation of Chinese technology that is laughable. It is like fools who think that 1940 technology can be kept in a bottle........and nuclear proliferation continues with many nations not even being discussed with nuclear capability.

I always said that getting the U.S. military bogged down in a long and largely useless war in Iraq was the greatest gift we could have ever given to China.

We grew economically and militarily weaker; they grew economically and militarily stronger. Moreover, we have helped revitalize Iraq's oil industry, which now exports 50% of its exportable oil directly to China.

Whodathunk things would turn out like this?

As you know, thanks to former President Bill Clinton.

The semi retired cows Jefferson Clinton and Obama Hussein are the cause of every evil known to man.  To his credit the greatest President we've ever had, George Walker Bush,  in his wisdom did everything a mortal man could do to save us from these evils,  even enlisted the aid of Jesus and Jehova,  but alas it was not enough.  The evil prevailed and we are doomed. Satan has won.

Dude, you are thinking N Korea, not China. China's SAMS are up to par with any in the world. The SA-20 is one bad mofo that causes many fighter pilots to not even want to fly in an area that is within their kill zone (classified). China has an ability to shut down the entire Strait of Taiwan with this system in case of hostilities. It doesn't miss and it's trajectory is one that most pilots will forget that it flies to the target (their aircraft) in a different manner than let's say an SA-2.

Yes, and Reagan/Bush blunders gave the Chinese access our most advanced nuclear missile warhead. See the Wen Ho Lee scandal. The Chinese even tested their own version of the purloined warhead in 1992, while Bush the Elder was still president.

The plans were on the open internet in the eighties... anyone that doesn't have them by now probably shouldn't.

So Boards you move a military post from general to politics.....I never counted weapons as political...you must have a more inclusive view of politics than I do....So if it has anything at all no matter how strained to do with the state it's politics....got it.
