For what? A president has no real influence over gas prices. Any reputable economist will tell you that. Geez. If you can thank him for "lower" gas prices then take it to the next level and blame him for a few Ebola cases in the states. Makes about as much sense.

That's a simplistic answer.

There really is a "gas war" being waged by OPEC/Saudi Arabia and the U.S. You see, we are major oil producers once again, and OPEC fears losing market share to U.S. oil companies. They know that shale oil is more expensive to produce than oil from conventional sources. Therefore, they are allowing a glut to see if the lower price will force U.S. producers to take production off-line. It is just a matter to see who might blink first. The price will eventually go back to around  $100 per barrel again.

The future trend for petroleum prices overall is north, not south.

Edited: In the meantime, enjoy lower prices for your gasoline! Razz

Mr. Markle and PeeDawg have demonstrated many, many times on this very forum that gasoline prices in the United States are set solely at the President's discretion.
