The family of the victim has called for the violence to stop as have outside leaders of the black community. This type of behavior, while offering brief catharsis for the rioters, does not solve problems in the long run.
As can be seen by postings here the riots turn the victims into the bad guys and focuses attention on the destruction of property. It feeds into this ongoing view that somehow it is the fault of black culture that is the real problem. This is a neat trick but let's not forget the contributions, if you can call them that, made by our white culture that have had a large effect on why things are the way they are.
Let's hope that with the help of the FBI that the investigation will go forward and result in revealing what happened that day when a man was killed for walking down the street.
So he was just walking down the street....are you assuming he was completely innocent before the ongoing investigation is completed?othershoe1030 wrote:The answer to every social problem is not a gun. When government fails to protect you, a gun might be all that stands between you and a perp/flash mob looking to do you, your family, or a hard earned/worked for business from being destroyed.
Oh, and the RACE card....more black cops are needed? Did it occur to you that there are minority preference hirings in every governmental agency from sea to shining sea? You can't legislate employment participation. Have you ever seen any other group act out in any way similar if a person of their race was killed by the police? I'll wait for that link to appear.

That's an interesting speculation . . . just what would happen if black cops shot down an unarmed white teenager for walking down a public street?
The National Guard would have to be called to protect the cops, and you know I'm right.
Yeah, Pacedog, your view of the world is completely asinine.

Holy cow, yes. Out of 53 cops only 3 are black even though the city says it has trouble retaining black cops. Just imagine what it would be like to be a rookie black cop in a department with attitudes like the ones we're hearing about. It would be hard to take to say the least.

I have not heard one way or the other on that question.

See above postings in which I list numerous incidents of racially directed harassment and injustice such as Jim Crow laws, etc.
