I believe it is something that happens far more often than what makes it to the news.

The sort of athletes involved in contact sports at that level work for years to absorb as much physical punishment as possible and dishing out as much physical pain and punishment as possible. They psyche themselves up almost into a frenzy before a game.

I'm sure most can leave it on the field but it would seem that there is a far higher rate than in the typical population who take out their anger on whoever happens to be around. Sadly, that frequently is a girlfriend or wife.
