Lots of info missing here.....if he swung at the cop with a knife, well,.....it's only fair the cop defend himself.

Yeah why bother with nonlethal means when you got a real nifty gun and you can kill some one ?

That was for a SHTF scenario where there is no doubt you are being attacked...Not for some guy walking up the driveway asking for something to eat....geeeze self-defense is legal but killing someone that could be handled by less drastic means isn't
