Ostensibly, Mr. Obama indicates our desire to cause Iraq to have a democratic government that is inclusive to Sunnis, Shias and Kurds.

Want to understand the realities?  Watch "Lawrence of Arabia," again.  After the big battle where the Turks lose Aqaba, the Arab tribes are unable to work together and the British take over.

Reality.

Anyone in Amerika Inc., who seriously believes we can force traditional religious and cultural enemies to "all just get along," is just as crazy as it was for us to have invaded Iraq in 2003.

The truth is, Saddam was able to forge a workable country out of its diverse parts because, like Stalin -- his idol -- he knew how to cut down enemies before they could amass power.

Check out these articles about what we shouldn't do:

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article38925.htm

We need to extricate ourselves from the quagmire that the Mid East is becoming.  I read yesterday we're ready to start exporting oil for the first time in years.  Wrong move.  Store it for our own use because we won't be able to rely on getting petroleum from the Arabs.

We desperately need to recognize that when we can't win, even by winning, we shouldn't go to war.

Reality.

It's too late to do anything there anyway. Maliki is a hard head, the various religious sects will NEVER compromise (I think they are similar to our very own guvmint divided along party lines), and Iran is getting exactly what it wants. The U.S. has been fooled again.

In short, you can't shine shit so there is no need to start flogging the dead horse in the mideast again.

I worry that there will be some event that will rationalize/justify our involvement again... that's the pattern.

See: "responsibility to protect"... Our un ambassador explains it very well.

There is always that danger. There is just no way to fight those clowns without involving troops. I don't want to see that again.

Me either.

Something needs to be done, real soon.....perhaps a strike on all the weapons, ammunition, and military equipment at the Balad base that ISIS is getting ready to over take. I would hate to the US weapons used against the Americans still in Iraq. Grow a pair and make the call.

It's been said before the weapons would eventually fall into the wrong hands.

Napalm comes to mind, just a thought.

Until we have complete energy independence, to include our economic trading partners, we are tied to this region. And we are duty bound as a Christian nation to help Israel at all costs.

We can destroy the equipment at balad

I hope the president does "make the call" and keeps our collective asses out of that country.

On that note, Carl Hiassen published a great oped about Dick Cheney......

...No American political figure in recent history has been dead wrong as consistently as Cheney, or as loathe to admit it.

It was he and George W. Bush who set in the motion the catastrophe now unspooling in Iraq. The decision to invade was peddled to Congress and the American people with a campaign of myth-making that Cheney still refuses to disown.

Long after Bush was forced to concede that Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction, and long after U.S. intelligence agencies affirmed that Saddam Hussein had no connection to al Qaida, Cheney continued to promote these discredited scenarios to justify his own hyperbolic cheerleading for the war.

Remember, this is the same arrogant boob who predicted that U.S. troops would be welcomed as “liberators.”

It took nine years and a new administration to finally get our ground forces out of that sad and awful mess. Now Cheney is pathetically trying to elevate his lowly place in history by attacking Obama for letting Iraq go to pieces.

In truth, the collapse began March 19, 2003, the day we started the “shock and awe” bombing.

Hussein was a rotten guy who ruled with an iron first, but he had no tolerance for jihadist terrorists. Eleven years ago, al Qaida steered clear of Iraq. Today the country is overrun by al Qaida-inspired insurgents, leaving the United States at a far greater risk than before.

Thank you, George and Dick...

1) We are not a "Christian nation".

2) We would be absolute fools to play along with Netanyahu.

And does perseverating on what is history you disagree with just give you a tingle down your leg or what? How is continuing to point the finger a solution? 66 months and that is all you have done since Jan 20, 2009.

We ARE a Christian nation. Your entire Constitution is chock filled with references to the Creator, like it or not.

When we turn our back on Israel, all hell will break loose in this country....literally. That's why many Biblical scholars see no references to the USA in Revelations.

No way are we duty bound as Christians to do anything for Zionist Israel. That is plain religious dogma, period.

Look at the fate of every nation that has persecuted Israel and the Jews historically...they don't EXIST as a power anymore. All have been given the giant smack down.

We can always depend on our resident Socialist/Communist to bring us the news from the Communist viewpoint.

OK big mouth -- point out any fact in the two stories I linked which you believe are wrong. Once again, facts are facts regardless of who uses them!

We do as human beings. They are our closest friend and ally in the region and we have treaties with them as well.

I'm sorry you're so filled with hate and are such a sad bigot. Seek help.

Piece of cake. As you well know.

“We gave Iraq a chance” - President Obama

See how easy that was? What else would we expect from Communist site?

Easy my ass, Herr Markle.  The statement is correct not incorrect.

The war you claim Dubya won established a democratic form of government that failed to include the Kurds or Sunnis.  We, in fact, DID give Iraq a chance.

You really are shallow .... LOL

That was an excellent article. Standby for Markle to point out the source as being "leftist" in origin.
