You may have heard that Colorado residents will be able to legally buy pot next year.

But did you know that in Oregon, mothers will be able to take their placentas home after giving birth? And in Illinois, it will be illegal for police to use a surveillance drone in most cases without a warrant.

These are just a few of the thousands of new laws and regulations going into effect next year -- mostly on Wednesday.

They cover everything from the minimum wage to tanning beds to drones, some a bit more unusual than others. But residents might want to brush up on the changes -- state lawmakers approved nearly 40,000 bills and resolutions this year, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures

Why would a mother want a placenta? I have about 10 in a little freezer in the garage but I use them as source to train human remains detection dogs.

You have to have good jaw muscles to eat a placenta. They are pure gristle. I have to bust em up semi froze with a hatchet. Nasty chips of it get on my face and thaw and it looks like I've been trying to earn my redwings. lol

Until about 10 years ago I had several certified cadaver and search and rescue dogs.  I know, now it is PC to call them human remains detection dogs.  I'm sure you've seen them but one of the training vests I used had a circular badge that said "Cadaver Dog, my day begins where yours ends".  Some saw the humor, others did not.  No, none of them ever wore that one when they were working.

Yes, knew about the placenta arguments…but for Pete's sake, it growing into a tug of war (pun intended) that it required legislation?

We are one self-absorbed, bored nation.
