I haven't had an incandescent bulb in my house for almost ten years.
Is it because I'm a greenie? Nah, it's cause I'm so cheap.
A few years ago, somebody sold me a big wicker basket full of unused CFL bulbs at a yard sale for a few dollars (after offices had closed down). It came out to be damn near a lifetime supply of em for a nickel apiece. Plus I don't give a hoot about the difference in the lighting. The people who care about that are just anal.

But the greenies need to know that the vacuum inside a flourescent is only that, a vacuum (i.e. nothing). But the CFL's have gas and mercury in em.
Ever tasted mercury in shrimp? That's enough to tell me it's not what god intended for his "temples".
And, how many people are going to all the trouble to avoid throwing the spent bulbs in the household garbage? By my statistics, that figure would be about the same as 10% of the audience for MSNBC. And I think the last I looked, MSNBC had about 1/10th of 1 percent of the tv audience. lol

That's okay, I use mostly LED bulbs now. I love 'em because the use 85% less electricity than incandescents do. I have these Par-38 LED floodlights over my garage in a day/night fixture:

They burn like mini-suns, and not only light-up my driveway, but shine all they way out into the cul de sac. Their combined power-consumption is 36-watts. I have another 9-watt LED globe in a fixture out back that lights-up my back porch and a large area of my back yard. These fixtures  are day/night and shine all night long, and I am still using only 3/4 of one 60-watt incandescent bulb. How can you beat that?

Doesn't this phase out just apply to the 40 and 60 watt rated bulbs and not all incandescent bulbs?

30% of your power bill is devoted to lighting. Why would you not want to trim that down by using more efficient lighting products?

LED bulbs are imperfect, I will admit. They always come with a statement how they will last for 25,000-50,000 hours of use. That may be the truth for the LED lighting elements inside the bulbs, but not the supporting electronics that make them work. I have had several fail, and it is always the electronics that make them function that goes wonky; or the build is imperfect and the bulbs come apart (Chinese construction). But I am sold on them and will keep using them.

Yes, one of the truly stupid things Republicans did years ago.  The 100 watt bulb is already gone.

I still have a slew of 100 watt incandescent bulbs along with 60 watt bulbs.  I never used 40 watt bulbs much so I don't have as many of those.

I switched to incandescent in my bedroom, Leds everywhere else....

Despite these benefits, scientists encourage consumers to choose bulbs situationally, avoiding LEDs at night. Melatonin-suppressing light is “dangerous only if we expose ourselves to it during the hours when we should be in the dark, and if the exposure is sufficiently intense or long,” says physicist Fabio Falchi, of the Light Pollution Science and Technology Institute in Italy. He advises people to rely more on incandescent light after dark, especially in the bedroom.

According to what I read, yes, but those are the most commonly used sizes. I got some freebie CFL's too but I absolutely hate them...partly because of the light quality, because in the long term they represent a disposal problem, and because the mercury in them is dangerous.

The lamps in my family room are 3 way lamps and on Saturday I just bought 4 3 way bulbs. The wattage rating on all 4 bulbs is 50-100-150. So the 100 watt is still available at least in a 3 way configuration.

Rugged duty incandescent bulbs will still be available.

What is considered rugged duty?

They make a special bulb for drop lights and trouble lights. it has a thicker filament and better filament support arms.
