I was raised Catholic, but lost my religion in eighth grade. It is despicable and reprehensible what we keep finding out about the lengths of just how far the church is going to protect itself. It also raises questions about behavior of men when we are denied closeness and intimacy forever for no given reason. Just a theory.Dreamsglore wrote:http://www.mediacomtoday.com/news/read/category/Top%20News/article/ap-church_whistleblower_says_she_didnt_do_e-ap
The church is made up of people and that's who the Catholic Church is. You can try and split hairs but they are just as guilty as if they did it themselves.2seaoat wrote:The Catholic Church is not molesting children. Employees and agents of that organization have harmed children either directly or indirectly by not taking actions to identify potential threats to children. The Church is not a person, and although the Supreme Court has turned corporations into people........the Church is not molesting kids, but their policies aid and often abet those who do.
I was raised Catholic also and it is a stupid and ridiculous religion as all religions are.CarlSagan wrote:I was raised Catholic, but lost my religion in eighth grade. Notwithstanding the media hysteria over sex abuse in the Catholic Church, priests abuse at a rate far lower than that of other males. While even one case of abuse is too many, approximately only 4% of all active priests between 1950 and 2002 were even accused of abuse – a rate far lower than that of other males in the general population.
Newsweek magazine, April 7, 2010:
"[B]ased on the surveys and studies conducted by different denominations over the past 30 years, experts who study child abuse say they see little reason to conclude that sexual abuse is mostly a Catholic issue. 'We don't see the Catholic Church as a hotbed of this or a place that has a bigger problem than anyone else,' said Ernie Allen, president of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children …
There are over 47,000 Catholic priests in the US...177 have been accused of abuse.
Media dosen't present cases of sexul abuse by Evanglists, protestant ministers, jewish rabbi's, or others people that contribute to the sexual abuse of 600,000 children a year.

I agree. my guess is its because of the amount of power the catholic church has. if they demonize that large group, that's a pretty big dealNekochan wrote:I do think the Catholic Church is focused on more than other churches/groups. We have church leaders in other denominations molesting kids but we don't see that focused on like the Catholic Church.
If you compare priests to males in general you're not going to come close but the fact that the catholics hid it and just sent the priests somewhere else to continue the abuse is what's appalling w/ no concern for the children who were abused.Joanimaroni wrote:Chrissy wrote:Teachers are molesting kids all over the place. more than the catholics.
