I just received it in email.  And what it means for me is this.  I've become very cynical about humanity and society.  But every once in a while I get a shot of something which gives me some optimism to counter all that negativity.  For me,  this is one of those shots.

this is an experiment.

This thread started out with the title...

"This thread has no title. I share this youtube with you and you decide what to think about it.".

After the thread got no hits, I decided it probably needed a title change.

It has 12 views as of now. Let's see if the title change makes a difference.

Okay that settles it. With the old title it got 12 views in about an hour.
With the new title it was up to 30 views within the next minute (literally). lol

I do not want to rain on the feel good parade, but pet owners are facing greater and greater expectations of how much they can spend on saving a pet. This operation and after care probably cost 5-10k. When people see these videos which create an expectation of deep pockets for every injured pet, it is not realistic. This animal probably should have been euthanized but for the generosity of people donating to the vet who posted the video. We recently had to put a loved 10 year old german shepard down and were facing 3k of testing and biopsy to extend the animals life......my daughter wisely put the beloved dog down. We are sadly losing our priorities as a society. There are children with health conditions where 10 could have been helped for what was spent on this beagle pup. Again, I apologize for being hard, but the guilt which is rising with pet owners faced with unrealistic procedures which are very expensive is borderline criminal behavior by vets.......common sense has left the house.

I'll expand on what you said. When the PNJ would run stories about infant/ child abuse cases, missing children, or children injured by gun fire you might see 3 or 4 comments following the article. When a story was about abused or neglected horses, dogs, or God forbid a kitten.....there would be page after page of comments. Posters were irrate over the mistreatment of an animal but not a child.

Society has lost it's priorites. The life of a human is more valuable than an animal.

I love my dogs. I would do almost anything, but what is happening in Vet offices all over America is wrong, and the FTC looked into the funeral business many years ago where people were getting ripped off by appealing to their heartstrings. I think vets must review their ethical standards. There are many good people helping animals. Our pup we have now was rescued from a kill pound in TN. People go to these pounds and save healthy pups, neuter and spay, find adoptive homes, and the new owners pay 350 bucks for the pups to cover the costs. 10k could have saved 30 pups from the gas chamber, and although I agree completely with Joanni on children, even on an animal level these specialist vets are consuming huge amounts of the animal welfare budget private and public as our priorities are being manipulated by just this type of video. Look in the eyes of healthy pups about to be gassed and talk to me about priorities. We need more pups being spayed and neutered, we need more kill pound rescues and adoptions, but that takes resources, and it does not make a vet rich.

You are correct. The vet set up the website, and got paid from other well intentioned people. Now it is not their money. It is the vet's money.

Damn, straight.

Even if it's not your money, any money is better spent feeding hungry kids.

You Know it is Bull shit when you have to get a prescription to buy your dog a damn flea pill. I can kill the dog but I can not get him fleas meds except though a Vet. Tell me again how that works........

Exactly. The dog union has us spending more on animal care than what is necessary, and the people union has us spending more on human care than what is necessary...more providers, less monopoly with delegation to PAs and other assistants......it has become about money, and very little about care......if it was about animal care kill pounds would not have to exist.

Another manifestation of this misappropriation is the repulsion at the human consumption of horse meat.

How is that any different than the consumption of cattle meat?
