All I can say is, good holy grief, we're fast becoming a Banana Republic, or worse. Absolutely frightening and depressing. Doesn't help that Biden seems to be failing fast. YIKES.
Kind of a nightmare, isn't it? The Supreme Court is compromised and corrupt. I expected them to lean to the right, but I also expected them to do their jobs. They aren't. They've become "fixers" instead of judges. They're working for a criminal organization now and I don't know if they're doing what they're doing because they really are that radicalized ideologically, or if they're in fear of their lives if they go against Trump who will become a dictator if he wins, but... something's definitely off.
Speaking of off, yeah, Biden's debate performance was awful. If you watch it again it's not quite as bad, but... it's still bad. I don't think he's senile (my dad and grandfather and next-door-neighbor all went senile so I've seen the real thing, and it's not like that) but he was horribly over-coached. Stutterers minds work differently, too, it's not just verbal, so it takes him an extra second or two to put things together... and he didn't take those extra seconds because he kept trying to blurt too many things out in the time he had. And it worked against him, badly.
I still think he's up to the job, but I'm not sure he's up to getting hired for it. Campaigning and running the country are two different things (and that was a lot of Hillary's problem -- I think she'd have been a great leader, but she was always a lousy campaigner). And I don't think he's really got any mental infirmities now, but four more years at a tough job that ages you fast? I dunno. He should consider letting someone replace him on the ticket. I think he's done an excellent job as president, and would only look like even more of a hero if he humbly stepped aside. And pretty much anybody younger would win -- America hates both of its choices right now.
But, if he decides to stay in, I'll still back him 100%, and I'll crawl over a pile of bodies to vote for him if that's what it takes. Not that my vote matters much in Mississippi (so much for the electoral college "protecting" the smaller states -- all it does is disenfranchise anyone who lives here who's not a fucking imbecile).
Meanwhile, because Trump has no expectations on him because somehow everyone's just accepted it that he's a pathological liar with a toddler's mind, he gets a total pass for that debate performance he had, which was also pathetic. I don't think anything that came out of his mouth wasn't a lie. Can't remember one thing. And he ranted and raved and made a complete fool of himself... but, his cultists either don't recognize it because they're even stupider than he is, or they don't care -- they want to be ruled by a criminal, as long as he's "Christian." It's the same doormat mentality that keeps people donating to Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart types even when they get caught stealing from them. There's a big masochistic, getting-off-on-humiliation thing among right-wing Christians that's worth some psychologist's study, but it's widespread. I know tons of 'em, and almost every one of 'em is in some co-dependent cycle of abuse. They get joy from being victimized, and I think that's what draws them to Trump. They want somebody to degrade 'em.
Jake Tapper and Dana Bash really ought to find a tree and hang themselves in shame for the job they did during that debate, by the way. They let CRAZY lies fly right by them and didn't push back or fact-check a damn thing. I've liked both of them in the past, but something happened to them there... they didn't do their job as journalists and moderators and they let a debate turn into just another open sewer of misinformation. They let the country down.
And on top of all this other mess, we've got Project 2025 to worry about. https://www.project2025.org/ That's the Republican plan to turn America into a totalitarian theocracy right there, before your eyes. Or at least the parts of it they'll show to the public -- they admit they have "other things" that they're not willing to "share with the left."
One thing to remember about that -- and about this Supreme Court decision: they wouldn't do any of this if they thought there was any chance of a Democrat wielding those powers. So the quiet part of this whole thing is, they've got a plan to rig things where Democrats will never be able to win another election. Or they'll stop having elections altogether... I don't know if that'll fly with the public or not. If not, then they'll fix it so America has "elections" the way Russia has "elections" -- you'll get to cast a vote just to pacify you and make you feel like you're "free," but they'll be the ones who count them, and, wow, the Republican wins 90% of the vote every time! They really won the country over because they're so great! Yay!
I'm being optimistic that they'll just rig the elections instead of giving in to their other fantasies, where they murder everybody who's not a right-wing Christian. Anyway, one way or another, they're counting on nobody from the "left" (which would include Reagan by the standards they're using nowadays) ever getting to use all these powers-to-be-lawless. O' course, Biden has those powers now, but even though they like to scream he's a "dictator" they know he wouldn't abuse 'em. But you can rest assured Trump would.
Anyway, yeah, we're in a mess. We're being held hostage by a bunch of brainwashed idiots who let themselves be manipulated by their worst instincts. And there's not a lot we can do about it because we don't want to become as bad as they are.
Beau is not usually alarmist. So him being alarmist now is kinda scary.
Oh well, the fun part is, we finally get a real understanding of how Germans let in something like Hitler. We're watching it happen again. Thanks, entirely, to Republicans. Oh, and the "Libertarian" pieces of shit who'll gladly give up all their liberty just to "piss off the libs."
And another point: the Republican party is, more and more, becoming less of a political party and more of an organized crime syndicate, dependent upon a cult of befuddled naive religious nuts to not understand what they're doing (same as they don't understand that televangelists are scamming them). This dumbshit idiot base has emboldened the GOP to turn what used to be a bit of corruption into the core of their party, and, increasingly, they are becoming a party that depends on being able to commit crimes in order to function. They still like to talk up being the "law and order party" (because they know their base never looks beyond what they're told, anyway) but all they ever actually DO is try to find ways to get around the law.
And, more and more, Republicans are patterning themselves on Putin. Which is pretty ironic considering their biggest defender around here was that degenerate deadbeat dad who used to call us all "comrades."
More about Project 2025 and Agenda 47 (Trump tries to claim he doesn't know anything about Project 2025, but Agenda 47 is also super-crazy and it's on his own website. Defunding legitimate colleges to fund a "patriotic college" online, handing out bullshit degrees? Republicans are going to dumb down this country in the interest of brainwashing until we're no longer internationally competitive anymore).
