Last December, the GOP added a section to the National Defense Authorization Act which transferred the sacred area of Oak Flat in the Tonto National Forest in Arizona to mining company Resolution Copper for the largest block cave copper mining project in North America.

This week, Apache Tribe members and conservationists arrived in Washington, DC after walking for 17 days from Surprise, AZ to protest this despicable land grab and support the Save Flat Oak Act, introduced by Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), which would save the sacred area.

Will you add your name to theirs and demand that this land not be mined for copper?

Mining will destroy Oak Flat, but Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) don’t care because affiliates of Rio Tinto – Resolution Copper's parent company which has been scrambling to mine this area for a decade – have long been contributors to Sen. McCain, and Sen. Flake was a paid lobbyist for Rio Tinto Rössing Uranium in Namibia before being elected to Congress.

Please sign the petition to congress to demand they pass the Save Oak Flat Act.

Remember McCain in 2008 railing against earmarks?  What would you call this?  What a lowdown hypocrite!
