"Phil Gramm, who was working for the banks even before he was working for the banks (if you know what I mean), tries to do retroactive damage control after statements by Sanford Weill that it was a mistake to repeal the Glass-Steagall Act - you know, the one that was replaced by the legislation Phil Gramm helped write?..."

You have to remember Sally is a delusional narcissist who poses as an ineffectual ultraliberal spinmeister with knowledge only wikipedia deep.

Uh Clinton signed it into law.

What's more, Rob Rubin and the rest of Clinton's Treasury Dept. were avid lobbyists for repealing G-S....it was a bipartisan effort.

Here's a link with plenty of documentation, explanation and opinion.

Bill Clinton's signature was a mere formality; there was no possibility of veto. The bill was crafted by 3 Republicans and the G-S regulations had already been violated in essence by Sandy Weill in the merger of Citi and Travelers.
