Remember how we were told that the RECESSION was over July of 2009. Vice President Joe Biden told us that the SUMMER OF 2010 WAS THE SUMMER OF RECOVERY.

Does this look like a recovery or WISHFUL THINKING?

U.S. Incomes Fell More in Recovery, Sentier Says
By Jeff Kearns - Aug 23, 2012 4:21 PM ET

American incomes declined more in the three-year expansion that started in June 2009 than during the longest recession since the Great Depression, according an analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data by Sentier Research LLC.

Median household income fell 4.8 percent on an inflation-adjusted basis since the recession ended in June 2009, more than the 2.6 percent drop during the 18-month contraction, the research firm’s Gordon Green and John Coder wrote in a report today. Household income is 7.2 percent below the December 2007 level, the former Census Bureau economic statisticians wrote.

“Almost every group is worse off than it was three years ago, and some groups had very large declines in income,” Green, who previously directed work on the Census Bureau’s income and poverty statistics program, said in a phone interview today.“We’re in an unprecedented period of economic stagnation.”

While gains in hourly earnings and average hours worked per week may have had “a minor mitigating effect” on income declines, they couldn’t offset a jobless rate that hasn’t fallen below 8 percent since February 2009 and a record duration of unemployment, according to the Annapolis, Maryland-based firm.

The average duration of unemployment increased to a record 41 weeks in November and remains at 39 weeks, Labor Department data show. Almost 5.2 million Americans have been out of work for at least six months.

markle, its hard to talk about how income fell under obama when your talking to retired artsy tartsie lefty liberals and people on the gov tit.

The other few are people with gov jobs and they love it when the gov gets bigger and everybody else gets smaller.

Wait until interest rates on government debt return to normal levels. We'll be paying $1,000,000,000,000.00 a year just on interest. You can thank JFK for most of it. Read some history.........

This is what happens when we elect people that have no economic background , they simply have the money, power and influence to get on the ballot. hell , I would rather see boards, margin or any of the ones on here who have had formal education in economics be president than the line of idiots we have had in office.

It was Republican policies that caused our economy to free-fall. There is no doubt whatsoever about that. The so-called "free" market is NOT FREE; it's skewed, subsidizing those who can afford to hire lobbyists and buy off politicians, overcompensating those who "run" huge corporations, often into the ground; awarding huge government contracts to corporations that don't even pretend to operate ethically and often pay damages that barely impact the bottom line.

A Romney/Ryan candidacy is nothing more than a reiteration of the same disastrous economic policies of Reagan, Bush I and Bush the Idiot. Anyone can "grow" GDP, inflating certain items here and cutting others there, but if long-term sustainable growth is the goal, Republicans can never deliver and don't even pretend to support John Q Public.

My daughter is paying more than twice the tax rate that Mitt Romney paid last year, and we really don't know whether he paid any taxes at all prior to 2010, because he won't come clean. Other than shrouding his finances in secrecy, Romney has consistently lied throughout his campaign. We don't need a Bush clone in the White House. We don't need the type of business acumen that forces workers out of jobs and ships those jobs overseas.

it's hard to imagine the ideological delusion it take to keep blaming one side when the record clearly shows both sides contributed. i wonder if there is a limit to what you are capable of believing... you would have been right at home in 1930's germany.

FlawedTexican is obsessed with the Blame Bush mantra. Her hero BHO has almost completed an entire term and has done nothing but make things worse in spite of his soaring rhetoric (aka LIES). He has made things worse by being the most devisive president in history, he has failed to gather a consensus in Congress to effect needed change. This failure is BHO's failure alone, not some long gone Bush.
