Not really off-topic at all, Linda.  I was thinking the same thing earlier today...so many people think nothing at all of "getting theirs" and pay no heed whatever to the damage they're doing to other people.  That's really what we're fighting here...people who have to have more, even when it costs everyone else for them to have it.  No, they're not all crooked...just the majority.
I hear you, Florida, though in this case I think those benefitting most are not politicians, but developers.    Some would say they're inextricably linked, but we have no proof of that.    BBL,    LL

Linda, take heart.  The pines were planted pretty much where the palms are and they were watered with a weekly truck.

They all died.

There is hope.

I read your post on the Johnson's and have to agree although I didn't see the article.  Much ignorance abounds regarding the beach, leases, accesses,  etc.

Gosh, I wonder why?Shocked Shocked

Knot, after filing numerous insurance claims (way too many) I found that tree damage regardless of it's origin is covered by the windstorm aspect of the HO3.  In fact, I learned in Opal it was to your advantage to have a tree come through your roof proving wind damage rather than flood as wind coverage can be better.

And so it goes.

My question was whether or not anyone's policy premium had increased or will increase due to the closeness of the trees.  It might be something to keep an eye on.

PS, Linda and FT couldn't agree more with you both on your thoughts re: raising children with ethics. Kudos

Storm, I'm on the run at the moment but wanted to give you the link to Eleanor Johnson's horrid letter to the editor on 9/12.  As usual, dunno how long the link will be good:

http://www.pnj.com/article/20130912/OPINION/309120002/Letters-September-12

I really wonder if these Johnson people are real.  Seaoat, they almost sound like Surf in disguise.  LOL

Hope to respond more later, Storm.

P.S.  I note via a Tweet on pnj.com that someone was bitten by a shark off Casino Beach this afternoon.  Yikes.  They say more details to follow...hope the person is OK.

Linda,

Read the letter from your link and that person is so uninformed is all I can say. Thanks for posting.

That was a very confusing letter to the editor.

Its beyond confusing, it is a downright lie. PB and NB are platted. The property lines do not change whether they are leaseholds or fee simple. The zoning does not change, and certainly the folks within those boundaries do not get fairy dust sprinkled on them where they have magical power to take away legally defined access to the beach. These are simply folks who are pulling a paycheck from SRIA who are writing these letters. SRIA exists to simply create another layer of government creating duplication and jobs......great if you have a job, but not so great with the double dipping lease fee and tax. I do not think this is surf. Surf is a guardian of the environmental issues on the beach. This simply looks like somebody protecting their income.

Thanks for posting that, Linda.  You'd think people would get tired of writing the same old "scare tactics".  What a farce.  Yet, some buy into it.

Heard this morning the shark attack was minor and may not have been a shark at all.  One woman said all she saw was dolphins........dolphins????

Anyway, he seems ok, thank God.

SO, I'm not sure I agree that it's an SRIA dependent writing that stuff.  Oddly, SRIA is one branch of government I appreciate.  Year after year they have been attentive to issues which are strictly beach related when Escambia County could give a flip.

Just last week SRIA called me to ask if my home was being advertised on Craig's List.  NO, it wasn't.  Yet, some fraud has copied my ad word for word, including my pics and is trying to rent it for 25% the actual rate.  He gets the money and the people arrive only to find they do not have a valid rental......great, huh?

I was completely unaware and the fraud might have been able to con some good people had I not been notified.

They have been really helpful to me over the years and I don't ever want to see them abolished.  Perhaps it's just me, but I like them and see a purpose.

I was completely unaware and the fraud might have been able to con some good people had I not been notified.

On Navarre Beach the common scam was perpetrated by this family which claimed he was a minister. They would go with one of the rental agents and get a house or unit. They would crank up the air conditioner and open windows and doors for about four hours hoping to freeze up the unit, but if it did not work they would simply go to the rental agent and say the unit is totally unacceptable, but in the meantime they make a copy of the key.

They would go to the other unit, and the owner would not have to pay the cleaning fee and got a one day proration. Well people started reporting that folks were showing up midweek in their units saying that they had rented the unit from a minister. We had neighbors who would go to their unit and find people in them. They had collected keys, and cleverly did not leave a trail because the agents would forget that they were in the unit temporarily. This scam brought in tens of thousands of dollars for the so called minister and his family. I am sure after doing this a couple years they moved on to another vacation beach location. The crooks have found out a person will hand over a couple thousand thinking a person owns the unit and they are getting a deal. Greed does not always have people confirming who they are dealing with, which in Santa Rosa County it is simple to do an online check of property ownership. People just believe they are talking to the owner. So consider changing your key system. I saw people putting deadbolt keypads which they changed the code every month as a secondary protection not to let folks get in their unit.

Thanks, SO. Stuff we dumb honest people never think of, huh?

I had another from the Ukraine but my Agent gave me the "scoop" on that type of inquiry. What they do is send a bad check and then for some reason ask for a refund thereby getting a valid check.

Thanks for the tip.
