1 2018 NFL thread on 8/20/2018, 6:17 pm

Right now I am not really the fan I have been for sixty years. I guess you would say this Bear Fan has been in hibernation. I will be pulling for the Bears, but I am excited to see what the Browns will do. I am watching Hard Knocks on HBO which features the Browns and I am hopeful they finally start winning.

So you want to begin discussing football already? We can't even get through the World Series first, for pity's sake?

Hubby pointed out an article in the PNJ sports section the other day, already speculating about who would win the Heisman this coming season. We both clucked unbelievingly.

But hey, go for it. Have fun -- not my sport and not my business if you want to start discussing it on the Fourth of July or whenever else. Just felt like belly aching -- better than head aching, I suppose, as in all the cranial injuries upcoming for all the young players in this "game."

(And yes, I know the Heisman comment belongs on the college football thread. But the principle remains the same. And now I promise I'm done on the entire subject.)

I don't get into baseball until the playoffs. Of course I love the game of football. Hoping to see a Seahawks game this season. Fingers crossed we can plan the trip.

Basketball.... yes.

I would like to go to a White sox game at the end of September if I am feeling up to it. The problem is that we put an antenna on top of our flagpole, and since a bad wind storm in June, we cannot get network TV. I will have to operate the Lull and put a safety harness on the wife to reconnect a new cable to our safety cage which can go 42 feet up. I just do not see my strength returning anytime soon.

I enjoyed the HBO series hard knocks, but what a cut throat environment when making decisions on who you keep. Apparently the Bears just got the best defensive lineman in the NFL, and I could care less. Maybe the Illness, maybe burned out on the Bears and all the false promises, but probably my antenna is not working and I cannot watch them. I wish I felt better so I could use the Lull to fix the flagpole antenna.

Huh? Did I hear that Bama already had a loss this year?
That can't be true, can it?

Donald Trump must have cursed them when he pointed out that Jeff Sessions didn't go to an Ivy League College.

We got the antenna reconnected with the wife going up thirty feet in the safety cage and replacing the threaded connector and the coax cable from the antenna on the top of the flagpole. We have one booster on the line and are getting 18 channels, but sadly the NBC station is not coming in clearly. Mrs. Seaoat purchased a sports package for forty bucks a month through our roku, but we get a week free trial. She is telling me the package includes NBA basketball. If in fact it does, we will be paying the monthly premium, but I can watch plenty of football and NBA for free on other channels. I just do not like fixing this antenna again. It is very dangerous, and my reactions are slowing down. What a trooper for a wife. Not too many woman would allow their husband to put them in a cage but she is a keeper. I keep telling her every male for 25 miles will be sniffing around after I am gone.......she can fish, change belts on the lawn mower, drive the dump truck, and she has a sense a humor.......Neighbors at the art fair were giving me a hard time because she was cleaning the lull yesterday as we get ready to winterize and lube the monster. Here is her cage....I have safety harnesses she must wear under OSHA regulation as one of my business partners was fined 25k for having one of his employees in a elevated bucket without a safety harness. They have a product called "compliance in a can" which has the requred OSHA safety harness in a can.

My dolphins won, but it took them 7 hours to do it. Ridiculous lightning delays.I've never seen such a thing. Hope it's not going to become commonplace.

I just do not understand how Oakland let Mack go. He has turned a good Bear's defense into a great defense. Gruden had a brain fart.

The Browns got a win and I believe a pretty good QB.

Green Bay and the Vikings lost and honestly the pundits had these teams as two of the top teams in the NFL. The Bears look horrible against a not too good team, and the offense is so rigid with this second year QB. They are down but a quarter left.

My dolphins were as outplayed as I've ever seen a team get outplayed, but they won the game against the Raiders. The stats were unbelievable when you look at the final score. Miami barely had the ball the whole game.
3 wins in a row make me think maybe Adam Gase does know what he's doing down there, but they have the Patriots next week. That's the real test.

Oakland is a cluster F as they gave away their best player and there are all kinds of internal divisions. The Bears are not as good on defense as advertised, but until they can get the passing game up and going it does not matter. They beat a weak Az team. There were more Bear fans in the stands than Cardinal fans........makes me wonder about Arizona going Blue.............and orange.

Oakland looked more like a steam roller today than a cluster f...k. Marshawn Lynch was fantastic all game and the Raiders offense looked super. Their passing defense broke down or they'd have beaten the dolphins to a pulp. On the other hand, Danny Amendola and Kenny Stills still have a lot going for them as receivers and Miami's passing game in the second half was just super. Tannehill, who I still don't like as a starter, made some passes that there was just no defense for. It was a scary game to watch for a Dolphins fan..I wouldn't count the raiders out of anything yet.

It is ironic all the talking heads had Green Bay and the Vikings winning the central and the lions and Bears doing nothing. The Bears lead the division. The pats were the favorite for the super bowl......they will be lucky to make the playoffs.
