FBI fires Peter Strzok over anti-Trump texts

The FBI has fired Peter Strzok over anti-Trump text messages he exchanged with his lover during the 2016 presidential campaign, Strzok's lawyer Aitan Goelman confirmed Monday.

Strzok, who led the FBI's investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election, was fired on Friday on the orders of FBI Deputy Director David L. Bowdich, Goelman said. The decision overruled a previous FBI decision that Strzok should face a demotion and 60-day suspension.

I wonder what happens to his pension, he's at least a 20 year guy. Does an FBI employee lose his pension if he's fired?

I just answered my own question: No he doesn't, it's impossible for a Federal employee to lose his pension benefits after five years employment.

From what I saw during all the complaints from Republicans about Strzok was that he was a minor player in the investigation and had texted numerous negative comments about other candidates as well as about Trump. No one on Fox ever mentioned his comments about Hillary or Bernie and others but made him look as if he were single-mindedly anti-trump.

The thing that bothers me most about his being fired though is the seeming disregard for (here we go again) the norms of how these things are usually done. Our institutions must hold to traditional methods if we are to have confidence in them. Trump is the poster child for disregarding these norms. We don't need that to catch on as it serves to disrupt the process.

Peter Strzok, the FBI counterintelligence agent who came under withering criticism from Republicans for a series of anti-Trump text messages he sent during the 2016 campaign, was fired on Friday, his attorney said.

According to Strzok's lawyer, Aitan Goelman, an internal disciplinary review had recommended Strzok's demotion and a 60-day suspension. But Goelman said Monday that the deputy director of the FBI overruled that determination and decided to fire him.

"The decision to fire Special Agent Strzok is not only a departure from typical Bureau practice, but also contradicts Director Wray's testimony to Congress and his assurances that the FBI intended to follow its regular process in this and all personnel matters," Goelman said.
