"I am born in a rank which recognizes no superior but God" -- King Richard I of England

I have long been of the opinion that when many people in this country go to vote for President they somehow think they are voting for a King with sweeping unilateral powers.  To take that thought a step further ... I think there's a sizable number of people in this country who just might, under the right circumstances, go for the idea of a King of America For Life.  And frankly, although the current White House miscreant happens to have been put in place by the right .... I think those people exist on both the right and the left.

A very insightful article from WaPo:   link: Despite porn stars and Playboy models, white evangelicals aren’t rejecting Trump. This is why.

...  To measure Christian nationalism we combined responses to six separate questions that ask whether respondents agree or disagree with these statements:

“The federal government should declare the United States a Christian nation”
“The federal government should advocate Christian values”
“The federal government should enforce strict separation of church and state” (reverse coded)
“The federal government should allow the display of religious symbols in public spaces”
“The success of the United States is part of God’s plan”
“The federal government should allow prayer in public schools” .....

... The more someone believed the United States is — and should be — a Christian nation, the more likely they were to vote for Trump ....

What's next with the Trump crowd I wonder .... droit du seigneur? Trump would love that, I bet.

Evangelicals have proven that they can ignore adultery, sexual assault and paying off a porn star as long as a candidate won't do anything disgusting like insuring poor people.

Evangelical Christians sell fear. God does not micromanage a person's life by how a minister steers the congregation. Matthew 6 says that each of us have a direct line with God which does not need others interpreting the bible for us. I can read. I have read the bible. I do not need Bob's buddy on hickory Hammock Road introducing Trump at a rally in Pensacola, and then telling Bob he was damn to hell for same sex thoughts. You see they need to target evil, which is their value determination and has little to do with the bible or what God's input is in any given situation........It is like a parts manual where they are telling you the screw that holds down the carpeting in the front seat is the most important part of the car, and I tend to think steering wheels, gear selection. and brakes are more important, but they will damn me to hell because they have created this cult where they convince the congregation that it is Christians vs evil......nonsense. Matthew 6 says it all. So when the church was part of the monarchies.........you could be burned at the stake by simply having a different reading of God's word in the bible. I think the more correct description of Trump voters is they want a church ran state, which Putin is now doing a very good job of turning over state property to the Russian Orthodox Church which is scapegoating same sex couples and immigrants......same old same old......until the American constitution.

Hmmmm, cherry picking buy-bull verses now to support your personal sociopolitical worldview now I see.

Perhaps not so much different than those you complain about?
