My wife has cleared the king size bed out. The Hospice folks are bringing a bedside commode, hospital bed, and O2. It will bring me 30 feet closer to the bathroom as my legs are rapidly weakening. No issues on final treatment. The blood collection for labs, and the radiation IV was done with just one stick. They had these doctors and lab folks come down and present me with a certificate for completion of the procedure, knowing I had the record high hormone level and what that means on survival after prrt. Now we wait as to which direction this turns in the next 10-14 days.

While I have the energy to type, we had a wonderful experience in one of these new combo long term stay and overnight hotel called aloft. It was only ninety bucks with the NW connection to be right in the heart of the gold coast. There are probably few places in the entire world which has better restaurants within a mile and a half. The Japanese bbq was very good and my wife said The line was 90% asian for pick up. The prime Rib place does not open until five, and I just wanted to have a lunch menu. So we have decided next month to take the girls and spend the night at the hotel again, and I can get my scan and shots. Pending how my strength does...no problem with wheelchair, but if I cannot walk into a public bathroom.....not leaving.

Great recap, Sea, thanks. Fabulous to hear you didn't have to go through the stick torture this time! Also very cool that you were presented a certificate -- an honor for sure.

Love hearing you talk about taking the girls next month. Fingers crossed for walking strength!

Hope the nausea leaves you alone this time. Take it easy, kiddo....

P.S. re sticks -- I found out during a few days in the hospital myself this past week that there's a very capable person in the Baptist Health Care organization whom other medical staff call the "vein whisperer." She can get an IV into anyone, they say, and I was fortunate she was on duty at Gulf Breeze when I needed an IV changed out, as I'm a pretty tough stick myself. Rare and invaluable skill on display that night...

Wonderful day of almost normal social activity. I played cards for about three hours with golf buddies and had wonderful conversation, but then I just got too tired and had difficulty keeping up with the game. It was very painful with the forced walking and we wanted to have dinner at the casino, but I finally said F it, no pain no gain.

The wife wheels me into the casino and I was able to get an end seat on Mississippi Stud table about an hour before dinner. It was fun but since I have really been getting bad I have a hard time supporting my big head so I tend to just lean over which does not make the other players comfortable as it is quite sad to watch the struggle, but during the last three months it has been stupid what I am winning on these games. The carnival game nickname is because they are a lot of fun, but the house has huge advantages. That is why I like playing poker and you are on even ground. Well, I won another $1,600 when I got four fives in a five card stud game called Ms Stud....the odds are just stupid, but the worse part is that I have had four quads playing this game in the last six months.

So we had our oysters and I was able to eat six of them as did my wife. That is the most protein I have been able to eat without gagging in four weeks. The wife was happy as she had lunch with a friend while I was playing earlier and it turned out to be a delightful day, but my weakness is troubling.....I need to eat more oyster, and can only hope that I can improve to eat meat in a quantity to stop my body wasting. Living is fun.....and people need people in social situations.

Christmas celebration at our home Sunday as we watch the Bear game, and exchange gifts There have been some serious issues with my son and SIL this year so I hope everybody will chill and enjoy....this will be the last.

I'm just finding it astounding that you're able to post so much, when just about a week ago you were barely able to type one sentence. To what do you owe this marvelous increase in energy? Not that we want to look a gift horse in the mouth, of course... But the same question arises when you say you've eaten six oysters without a problem, and this after PRRT...really? No nausea?
And you're actually talking about coming to Florida??
Almost unbelievably great, seems to me. Well, whatever you're doing, keep up the good work!
Enjoy your Christmas celebration and I, too, hope it goes smoothly.

It is mostly just getting by the last treatment and knowing that there is nothing else they can do for me. When they delivered the hospital bed and I got comfortable something snapped as I realized that I did not want this to end like this. It requires incredible pain and determination to walk now, but I just decided that I was going to eat and exercise and live. The reality is in my wife and daughter's eyes and tears. I will die in that bed and all my efforts to fight to the end will be in vain.......but F it , as much of a nightmare as this has become, there is always a silver lining if you work to find the same. I love playing cards and it forces me to walk and get out of the house.

The first treatment had me gain ten pounds. The next two were horrible, and since June I simply at times can go a day or two without being able to put food in my mouth without the death mucus choke and a man who once regularly weighed 230 is below 170 pounds and can not sit in a chair comfortably because now my wasted buttocks muscles roll and cause discomfort if I do not have a pad on the chair. So I am not as talkative and much fun because my historic role in the poker game is chit talker.

In regard to posting, I am having trouble typing at times where my forearms became exhausted with just a little typing. Also, the pain levels which require morphine mess my thinking up. My wife knows that going to Florida is about a ten percent chance with my continued decline, but having something to look forward to everyday is important to turn the dying experience into a living experience. Part of this is the tension between caregiver and terminal patient, as I become more dependent on my basic needs on other people. I told my wife that I feel like the fricking dog having any need and having to depend on other humans to care for me.

The muscles all over my body are narrowing and becoming like bungee cords when they used to be broad and wide with the depth. Well the simple act of sitting now is like sitting on a bunch of bungee cords which roll because they lack the stability of the broader base. here is my arm.

We never thought about Oysters as a source of protein. Illinois is steak and potato country. I cannot eat steak right now. I am having incredible trouble with hamburger, lunch meat, pork, turkey....etc. When I put a piece of hamburger or steak in my mouth about the third chew is is like somebody turned on a faucet of mucus as I get chocked out and have to force a swallow which can be very challenging. What I am excited about with the oysters is a few chews for flavor, a sip of my hot virgin mary to spice it up, and boom they kind of slide down and the warm cheese and spinach start the mucus process but boom the little critters are down the hatch. Now, it is not as simple as just getting stuff down.....there are major problems getting stuff out........so I am waiting to see if there are any issues later this morning. When I can get some protein down I have increased energy, and feel great this morning after the oysters.

Thank you, Sea, for taking the time to explain things so fully today. Everything makes a whole lot more sense now. I know you're doing things your way, and who could argue with your perfect right to do so? I just hope you and Mrs. Sea don't end up bumping heads too much, as I'm sure it must be distressing to both of you. This is a very, very difficult and complex path (I'm sure I don't know the half of it), and one that neither of you has walked before. I'd never presume to even THINK to tell you what to do or how to be; I just hope you'll each somehow be able to give yourselves some slack as you navigate the choppy waters ahead.

I think it will be over shortly. We were shocked to see that I went from 170 lbs to 162 pounds in less than two weeks. This is from a man who carried 230 lbs most of his adult life. Seventy pounds lost very soon. I feel like the doctor telling me in the end I will not have the strength to leave the bed is not far away.

So I have decided between now and the first of year to say F it.....every available night dinner, casino, or hotel until I cannot walk.

Played live poker and watched the granddaughter bb practice yesterday, and heading for quad cities tonight. I barely made it to the car, but damn my granddaughter is going to be better than my daughter who had 11 varsity letters in high school and played division one volleyball and was captain of their track team, yet her best sport was bb. You can just pick up the genetic quickness of her hands and she is like a baby Giraffe all arms and legs right now, but like her mom she is the fastest person in fourth grade(boys and girls) and will grow to about six foot to six one. Just the right size to enjoy high school and college athletics knowing that without size you cannot ever master a sport in today's world regardless of skill and heart.

She sent me an email telling me how happy she was I came to watch....pain equals gain.

Enjoy the quad cities!!!! Let us know how that goes. Don't blame you for pulling out all the stops.

Quad cities was a huge poker loss, but I was at least able to converse with people and hold my head up. I really cannot eat food any longer. Apple sauce, pudding, lobster bisque, and maybe an oyster. I am starting to choke when trying to swallow to take my pills. I had half of the salad and took two bites and Mrs. Seaoat rolled me back to the room. She brought some salmon back to the room and I had two bites and shut down. This is all part of my final journey.

Now the amazing part of our visit. A lady at the table we began talking to and she lost her husband six months ago to liver cancer. We exchanged all kinds of information and she was so helpful as she described the last week of her husband's death including the last day......it was the best information my wife and I have gotten as to what is coming. HOWEVER......there was a problem......other people were listening to the stories, and the dealer started crying and the pit boss who was standing behind her starts crying, now the lady starts crying, and now my wife starts crying..........., now the guy next to me is trying to hide the tears, and all I am thinking about is that I am getting the snot beat out of me, and there is no crying in Mississippi Stud. The kleenex box was passed around, and we learned the dealer had lost her husband to cancer a year ago........ and the guy next to me was having more problems with his MS as he was getting weak........and literally the table was down for five minutes..........I think they are going to quit sending me free stuff because my condition may shut the whole casino down next time.

I see your sense of humor is alive and well and living in Ilinois.

And did you yourself shed even a tear, other than for the loss at the games? Just wondering.
