Ready for President Oprah? I think she threw her hat in the ring tonight. Will fake 45 have time to carry out a smear campaign like when he was the Grand Dragon of birtherism? We shall see.

Oprah’s Cecil B. DeMille Speech Literally Got Everyone On Their Feet In Applause

"In my career, what I've always tried my best to do, whether on television or through film, is to say something about how men and women really behave. To say how we experience shame, how we love, and how we rage, how we fail, how we retreat, persevere, and how we overcome. I've interviewed and portrayed people who have withstood some of the ugliest things life can throw at you, but the one quality all of them seem to share is an ability to maintain hope for a brighter morning even during our darkest nights. So I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day is on the horizon, and when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say Me Too again."

The quote you provided is your basis for thinking she's thrown her hat in the ring for president? I didn't read it that way at all myself.

I am so sick of unqualified celebrity being considered for jobs which have true prerequisites. The idea that Oprah would be qualified is just more of the same idiocy which gave us Trump. We need a governor who is young with a proven record of dealing with real executive issues in the public sector. Nobody from Congress. A governor who actually has governed.

Welcome to the age of idiocracy. It dawned last November.

I like Oprah, but I'd have to hear a WHOLE lot about her economics knowledge, foreign policy knowledge, etc. before I'd consider her for president. It's not enough just to be smart and good-hearted; that job takes a very particular skill set, and we're now witnessing the disaster that happens when you elect someone who has none of those skills. She's a bigger business and media success than Trump ever dreamed of being, but that doesn't necessarily translate well toward POTUS.

I don't think Democrats are going to jump on an Oprah ticket without hearing a hell of a lot more about her policy knowledge and such. Republican voters tend to be the ones who'll chase after celebrity and bright-shiny objects... Democrats are a little more serious (although still not serious enough for me, considering the attention Bernie got -- dude means well and nails it on identifying problems, but understands real-world hard economics and foreign policy about as well as a cocker spaniel does). I'll be surprised if likeability and celebrity alone gets Oprah taken as a serious contender. We'll have to hear more.

Good speech, though, although I'm not sure it's actually what people are making of it. I think people are so desperate for a president who's not a mean-spirited moron that they're jumping at every good-natured smart person that seems like they could be interested. Whatever the case, I'm betting conservatives are going to get something in 2020 that they really don't like, just out of backlash. And I really don't care -- for being stupid enough to disgrace this nation with Trump, they deserve nothing less than damnation.

Of course it is. The first potus O was a rookie senator with next to NO executive experience.

You know damn well that you'd vote for Oprah... or literally anybody the dnc puts on your plate.

Agreed.

Well, we all had that opportunity last year with Gov Johnson ... 8 years of commendable bipartisan governorship plus another 7 years governing experience with Gov Weld on the ticket.

But nooooooo, we couldn't do that, could we?

To tell ya the truth, I've never thought Oprah Winfrey was particularly smart. All political correctness ... no substance.

Obama was a Civil Rights organizer, an Illinois state Senator, and a U.S. senator, as well as being a Constitutional Law scholar. That's a lot more experience than you're wanting to acknowledge. But you've got your own little Nazi-appeasing sKKKumbag agenda to follow, so it's expected that you deny things.

And you can take your "insight" as to what I would do or not do and shove it straight up your ass. Smile

Oh, wow!   A "community" organizer; an adjunct academic; State legislator with few reported legislative accomplishments; and a whole 300 days in the US Senate?

So what your saying here is the man had zero foreign policy experience; very little experience as a real attorney,  had some part time gigs as an adjunct college professor (not a real professor);  very little legislative experience; had never run a government, a large government agency, or even a large private sector organization, or had to deal with a budget; And that qualifies him to be leader of the richest, most powerful nation on earth and to run a humongous Federal government?   To tell ya the truth ... Hillary was far better qualified, and I didn't/wouldn't vote for her either. All in all though ... Obama did not do nearly as poorly as President as his dearth of relevant experience for the job indicated he might. I figure we just got lucky with that ... I'm not so sure about the current unqualified occupant of the office

I'm not saying he was eaten up with experience. But I am saying he was not so easily dismissed as Pkr the always-desperate forum shitstain tried to do.

Figuring Obama got "lucky" is a way to dismiss his intelligence if you want. Me, I think he was a smart man who learned quickly, took the job seriously, and heeded the advice of people who advised him. He built a good team. His team-building got compared to Lincoln's "team of rivals."

His successor has, instead, surrounded himself with flatterers, and isn't very smart to begin with. That's the guy who's gonna need the luck. Obama knew his limitations and how to work around them... and then work on them so they wouldn't be limitations anymore. The guy we've got now thinks he was born great at everything and sees no room for improvement.

And yeah, Hillary was much more qualified than anyone who's run in a long time. But people didn't vote for her because they fell for a bunch of bullshit, or just didn't like her personally, which is far too much of a factor with dumbass shiny-object-chasing voters now. I didn't like Bill Clinton personally at all, I think he's a scumbag as a human being, but damn if the dude didn't have all kinds of presidential skills. That's what I vote for, not who I'd rather hang out with. I don't find Hillary all that charming, but, that doesn't matter - I'm hiring her for a job, not inviting her to a party. So I had no hesitation about voting for her. And if she'd won, we'd all be much better off, whether you like her personally or not.

We don't need another amateur in the White House no matter if her name is Oprah and she's a liberal.
It's going to take somebody who knows his or her job to straighten out the mess that will be left in 2020. A "politician" is just fine with me, so long as they know who the leaders of the world's countries are, they know how to negotiate and be statesmanlike with other countries.

Oprah will screw up the election if she runs in 2020. I hope she realizes she is not qualified, because American voters are too stupid to realize it.

Maybe but if she runs against fake 45 she will get my vote. She may not be the perfect candidate but I doubt she will bend over backwards appeasing our foreign enemies like doturd does Putin and the Russians. I wouldn't call it screwing up the 2020 election as much as correcting the big mistake of the 2016 election.
