Multiple people have been killed and many more injured in a shooting Sunday at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, authorities said.

The shooter was killed after a brief chase north into neighboring Guadalupe County, according Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office spokesman Robert Murphy. It is unclear if the shooter was killed by police or took his own life, Murphy said.

The FBI is responding to the scene of the shooting, according to Michelle Lee, spokeswoman for the FBI's San Antonio field office.

Local police also have responded to the scene, which occurred at the First Baptist Church, a witness told CNN. The witness, a cashier at a gas station across the street from the church, said she heard about 20 shots being fired in quick succession while a church service was underway around 11:30 a.m. local time.

So far twenty known dead, including children; at least as many wounded.

More guns!! We need more guns in this society!!!!!

Very sad. Surprised no one in the church fired back.

Maybe no one in the church wanted to worship their god carrying an instrument of death.

The simple fact is that any person can get a gun, and kill just about anybody they desire. They get their ten minutes of fame, and society gets more callous about innocents dying from firearms.

Criminal behavior has somehow required America to spend five trillion dollars killing innocents in the middle east under the guise that the military is the best way to deal with criminals. I used to argue with Bob that terrorist are common criminals and they should be arrested and prosecuted as common criminals, not some ideological manifestation which requires military adventurism, or more government intrusions under the guise of security.

When you cannot even take your children to church to worship and not risk your lives, the solution is not more police, and more military. It is not having every person armed in the church or work, but being aware that criminal acts can happen at anytime and the police are always just too late. Most churches are going to have to train a few members to provide security. 5 year old children being shot in church is unacceptable.

No wonder our navy cannot help running into big ships.

What on earth does a shooting in Texas have to do with Naval vessels in the Pacific? Explain, please.

It's too soon to discuss it.

Of course, by the time it's okay to discuss it, we'll have two or three more to discuss. That's how it works.

People just keep shrugging it off, and they always will until one of their kids takes on in the head.

I heard that he was imprisoned for domestic violence. So it's unlikely that he legally possessed a gun.

In the military. He was a typical recruit F up who was sentenced while in the military. It was NOT a criminal conviction but a military conviction. In regard to what do ships have to do with this story........a commentary on who is going into our mercenary military. On Curb your enthusiasm there is a sketch where Larry's manager's daughter is getting married to a veteran. In obligatory fashion when being introduced, each person at the dinner party extends their hand and thanks the man for his service. When it is Larry's turn he extends his hand and says "its nice to meet you", which everybody gets upset including the man because Larry did not thank him for his service. The man becomes depressed because Larry did not thank him for his service and Larry decides to make it up by taking him to a revolutionary reenactment where they both were soldiers under General Washington. The veteran goes psycho and starts attacking wait staff at Larry's country club. Comedy sometimes gets away with what people are really thinking. As we approach veterans day and the Waffle House is filled to the brim with veterans seeking a free meal, one has to ask the simple question of what type of people are we attracting to the military as volunteers and for what reason have they been attracted to our militarization of America..............

Domestic violence and a dishonorabky discharged unstable liberal. He sought out the church of his in laws. Thankfully, he was chased by legal gun owners.

The facts in this story will certainly be "cherry-picked" by the media to fit the liberal agenda.

In the military...........

I'm not sure how that differs... but the form filled out simply asks if you have been convicted of a crime and there's a fbi background check (such as failed in the Atlanta case). He of course also carried the weapon and committed numerous other crimes. What further laws do you think crazies and criminals will follow?

A firearm is indeed an instrument of death. Nothing more and nothing less.

It's more like a tool. Good in the right hands... bad in the wrong hands.

Please provide any credible evidence that this shooter was a liberal. You're blowing smoke. He was not dishonorably discharged; if he had been, he wouldn't have been able to purchase a firearm. The legal gun owner who chased him was a neighbor who happened to overhear the shooting. He was too late. Why don't you do some reading before "cherry-picking" your "facts".

The vast majority of gun violence takes place at the hands of a felon legally forbidden to have a gun.

Likely the case in this instance too.

20 something Saudis fly three planes into buildings and one into a field, and we attack Afghanastan and Iraq who had NOTHING to do with the attack. We then generalize that all Muslims are terrorists and openly discriminate by executive order and hateful rhetoric. Yet, a veteran murders innocent woman and children, and where are the stereotypes and hate. Do you see anybody suggesting that all discharged vets should face extreme vetting?

Logic has left the house and the tail is wagging the dog.
