You can always fall back on their NFL team.

I was an oilers fan... many heartbreaks there too. Then the franchise moved to Tennessee and won a sb.

Sports can be cruel.

I will try to play some poker next week. The medical pot has really given me relief on my tailbone mets which means I can sit now for a few hours. The problem is that I do not drive when I have taken the medicine on that day, and my wife would have to be able to visit girl friends and then pick me up.

There is a Casino in Moline Illinois(quad cities on Mississippi) called jumers. We get a complimentary hotel room and had a coupon for fifty bucks off on the second meal in their steak house. Great food, great room, but even better carnival game results. I have been playing Mississippi stud rather than poker because the table game has higher chairs and the mets do not act up. Well I was down five hundred dollars last Tuesday and they tell us that we have three more hands before they close the table for the night, when I was dealt your kings......I was playing a 10 dollar ante so I loaded up one hundred dollars on the bet knowing I had a sure winner. First card was a king which means I just went from 500 bucks down to 200 bucks down. The next card was a king. I got four kings(it has been a year and a half since I had four of a kind in this game) and I was paid forty to one, or four thousand dollars. It kinda made my year. I usually lose about 2k a year, but it is great entertainment. I have lost the last three years. It looks like I will have a good year. I never play to make money. I play for the shear entertainment, and the money just adds a little excitement. I gave Mrs. Seaoat five hundred and decided to call Bobcat to finish the hydraulic filter cleaning and install on the bobcat. I have been playing sports and competing since I was a child, and this cancer sucks when it takes my joy of poker away, but these carnival games have been very kind to me this year, although I lost 400 bucks Wed, but won 200 playing a three hour poker game with my golf buddies. This medical pot is a miracle. I may still be dying, but my quality of life has been elevated to where I cannot wait for the morning to see what is next.....a very good feeling after watching my grandson play basketball this morning. four kings.....you live for hands like that.

We went to the Quad cities to Jumers. Had a great room and two free buffets which had prime rib and pastrami cut to perfection. The Mississippi Stud however was a disaster. Because I have been way up since last Tuesday, I lost 900 bucks and went to bed a beaten dog. This morning I won the first five hands and had three three of a kind and a full house and won 1,100, so with those huge swings we get free room and board and won 200. I am not liking the amount I am putting into play as I have always been a recreational player who if I lose 2 or 3 hundred it is fun still, but when you go to bed 900 down, that starts to be stupid. You could play poker for a month and not lose 900, but also could not win 1100 in 45 minutes. I had no problem with my tailbone bone mets and played to 4 in the morning without pain. I wanted to go to the poker room, but I was so far down......I just had to ask for more beatings.

As I sat playing they had a bank of tvs showing the world series. My biggest bitch about sporting events is how small they make the score in their graphics. All I was watching was both teams hitting and them showing the wall. Dealers would come over and say the lead is changing......then another tv image of the wall......it sounded like a great game, but all I saw were images of Kershaw and the outfield wall.

We talked about that last night... you can't see the stats and they rarely show the batting averages of the current batter.

I felt sorry for Brandon Morrow....

'Morrow allowed a home run, a single, a double, and another home run, with a wild pitch mixed in between.'

With all the quirky stats that has to fit in with the worst 6 pitches ever.

For some reason I just don't like playing the table games or slots or even cash game poker. I'm a good player at cash game poker and am easily a long-term winner... but I never feel excited to play and would really have nothing to do in order to play. Tournament poker is just such a different animal in a casino. It's a true test of skill and endurance and competitiveness. Once I pay my entry fee it's pure entertainment and game theory. I love that. I sure wish I could still play tennis. It's very similar in the sense that you must beat them all. It's also really fun when you walk into a club and everyone looks at you... and knows the threat you represent. But from then on I focus solely on sending everyone home a loser. Pure joy... lol.

I agree. I used to live for tournaments. The problem I have with a cash game is that if you are properly tipping, and you are only playing in a 1-2 no limit texas hold em game, it is impossible to win over a thousand hands because most of the Illinois casinos take such a large percentage of the pot. I have seen folks who have shown with mathematical certainty that probably only ten people out of a thousand actually can be ahead in 1-2 with tipping and the amounts they skim off of every pot. I just laugh at people who think they are good poker players and talking about their winnings when statistically it is almost impossible to win. Now this drastically changes when you go to a 10-20 limit game on texas holdem. You can tip, and the pots are so much larger that the dollar tip and skim allow good poker players to excel.

I used to stay away from carnival games because the best you can do is probably a 1.5 percentage advantage to the house. I like Mississippi Stud because if you play very disciplined tight poker on the first two cards you are dealt and listen to the chatter at the table and the first bets, you quickly gather table information which improves your probabilities by folding even winning cards which would be jacks, queens, kings, and aces. Most casinos do not shut down begging for cards. Experienced players beg, and they also do not protect their cards for the people sitting on either side.

I found out about a year ago that the shuffle master does not do a great job of separating cards when their are only two players and the dealer. So if a table gets hot with lots of jacks , queens, kings, and aces showing up in the dealers 3 cards and the two player's two cards you have a lot of face card winners out of that seven card deal from the shuffle master machine. They use two decks so you need to catalog the frequency of cards with each deck. The blue deck may have groupings of sevens, kings, and tens. If I have a seven ten, I will play that to the end because I only need a seven or ten to pop up to push, and if the deck gives me a king and another face card, I will double my first bet.

This ability to double the first bet based on frequency groupings is not a dead cinch certainty, because the other player may get a king, seven, or ten, and the dealer is skunked, but I think the casino is getting wise in the Quad cities because now they are shuffling the cards by hand every fifth hand and then putting them in the shufflemaster which changes the patterns of the shufflemaster with three hands. My regular casino does not do the hand shuffle and the players are talkative and do not cover their cards. This is a huge advantage for a disciplined tight poker player who is going to play a thousand hands. I have been up two years now in Mississippi Poker, but last years wins were offset by my terrible cash poker game losses where I was in so much discomfort.

I wish they had table tournaments which pay the top three players. Not more than a couple hours and not the usual grind of a bigger tournament. One of our players just won 300k in the Indiana poker tournament at the horseshoe, above average player, but never thought he could cash at that level.

Up 5-0... I'm making the tragic mistake in believing the Stros are going to win a ws. Just WOW..!!

Btw... those single table tourns are called a "sit and go". They're also often used to win entry into a tournament... like the one you saw me play in Chicago. They're my specialty... along with tourns when they get short handed.
