"It's a scary time for science — and scientists.
The Trump administration has disbanded a crucial climate advisory committee that gathers vital information about communcating the impacts of climate change.
There are real fears that President Trump might bury a climate change report written and reviewed by scientists from 13 federal agencies. And Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke has reassigned a top climate policy official and dozens of other senior employees within his agency.
But it doesn't stop there: EPA scientists are being forced out or are stepping down from their positions out of protest.
President Trump is calling for funding cuts to the National Weather Service, NOAA, and other agencies we need more than ever to predict and prepare for climate-driven extreme weather like Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and now Maria.
Trump has nominated climate skeptic Rep. Jim Bridenstine to serve as NASA administrator and Sam Clovis — a non-scientist — to serve nonsensically as chief scientist of the Department of Agriculture.
And he wants Bill Wehrum, a corporate attorney for a variety of fossil fuel companies, to run the EPA's clean air program. In fact, Wehrum was largely responsible for the Bush EPA's record of allowing more illegal emissions of harmful air pollution than any EPA administration before or since.
This must not stand. We urgently need your support to fight back against the Trump administration's attempts to banish science and silence scientists.
Help NRDC raise $50,000 to defend our environment on all fronts and fight back against the administration's anti-science, climate-denial agenda.
We've never witnessed such a massive assault on our environment, public health, and our nation's scientists as we have over the past nine months.
In addition to pulling the U.S. out of the landmark Paris climate agreement, Trump is attempting to cut the EPA's budget by 31%, dismantle the Clean Power Plan and set us back decades in the fight for clean energy, force the Keystone XL pipeline down our throats, strip away protections for national monuments and public lands, and roll back the ban on oil and gas drilling off our coasts.
That's why we need you beside us every step of the way — to stand up for our planet, our communities, and the truth about climate science.
Help us be ready to fight back when it matters most by making your tax-deductible, emergency gift today.
Thank you for all that you do.
Sincerely,
Rhea Suh
President, NRDC"
