We have friends who got two rescue pups from the same litter. They took the pups with them to the firework display. One of the pups ran away. There is a huge forest preserve with a large deer population and about two square miles where the puppy ran into. They organized search parties and two days later they found the pup. She was covered with over 60 tics and immediately took her to the vet and to a dog groomer. Lyme disease is running rampant around this area as the deer population has grown, feeding on corn and protected by the preserve. The tics have unlimited food supply and this puppy wandered into tic heaven. The pup will be ok, but people should use their brain and understand that dogs do not like explosions. When I have gone hunting with friends who have dogs it took years to train them not to be scared of shotgun explosions, yet almost every dog freaks out about a thunder storm, and you take two pups to a forty five minute series of explosions without even thinking about what that will do to the dogs. Some people really should not own puppies.

The one exception.....a Basset Hound. My daughter got a Basset years ago, when the pup was 3-4 months old we took "Sam" with us to the beach fieworks. Sam slept through the whole thing. He slept all the way home and I had to even carry him from the car to his bed.
