And on the same night, a little-watched special election in South Carolina gave the Republican Party another scare, as an obscure Democrat, Archie Parnell, came within 3,000 votes of capturing a solidly Republican congressional district. Turnout in the election was tepid, and the close margin was seen in both parties as a function of Democrats’ greater enthusiasm for voting in a low-key race.

oh oh.....same article.

Nick Everhart, a Republican strategist in Ohio, said the party should not allow its relief at having kept Democrats at bay turn into complacency. Up to this point, he said, Republicans have been beating Democrats only on solidly red turf.

“To pretend that there are not serious enthusiasm-gap issues with the G.O.P. base and more crucially, independents fleeing, is missing the lessons that need to be learned before truly competitive seats are on the board,” Mr. Everhart said.

Face it, head to head in a special election you could throw money at in unlimited amounts and you lost.

If you feel good about fighting tooth and nail and then barely squeaking by in Georgia -- where there by all rights shouldn't have even been a chance for Democrats -- against a young and inexperienced candidate who wasn't even from the district... then, go ahead and feel good about it.

If the situation was reversed, though, that "victory" would be keeping me up nights. You're starting to have to battle for demographics that you could once comfortably take for granted. And your voter base is getting older and dying off, without making many new converts. And when your guys do get a chance in office, they do a horrible job, and everybody's seeing it. Which is why you're having to battle for places like Georgia.

So, yeah, enjoy that kind of victory while you can. Smile Tick tick tick...

At least Democrats have the courage to disagree among themselves. Conservatives are too cowardly to dissent.

Sure, if you can't make an argument, you can always do that. And when you get your ass kicked, you can always change your screen name and make up a new one and pretend it didn't happen! Smile

None of it changes your situation, though. You're still an easily-duped doofus who elected an incompetent moron who's making your party look completely ridiculous. Enjoy!

Liberals lose badly.

I think that's typical for a hate group.

Are you watching the news for the past few weeks/months? The entire struggle over the bill to kill the ACA is among various groups of Banana-Republicans who can't come to an agreement as to how to cover more people (they won't), lower premiums (really?) and give the wealthy a huge tax cut (of course). The Freedom Caucus is fighting the rest of the party, McConnel can't get his ducks in a row, insurance companies are shutting their doors because there is so much uncertainty. In short, it is a mess created by the Banana-Republicans who think a tax cut is the cure all for everything, as long as their supporters (the rich ones, not the minimum wage ones) get it.

Not exactly a united front. That doesn't even cover the chaos in the WH! I'd say "disagree" is too tame a word to describe this group of floundering inexperienced corrupt politicians.

Lord, no! It's too depressing. I watch the Cartoon Network, which is why I'm so even tempered and cheerful.

You, of course, would know, being one of the most vitriolic, angry, hate-filled individuals I've ever had the displeasure of seeing on a forum.

And to borrow a page from Pkr's endless book of comparisons, OH, how soon we forget all the hate and vitriol that was spewed against Obama for eight long years -- the main difference being that he maintained a high approval rating from the American people throughout, despite the constant acid rhetoric thrown at him from countless right wing haters, while Trump's approval rating, as we all know, is in the toilet and it doesn't much matter what anyone says because he does it to himself, all by himself, all the day long, month in and month out.

Throwing in stupid remarks like that are just Pkr's way of avoiding response to factual truth.  He does it all the time.  It's a mask of obfuscation that doesn't fool anyone.

You know if the "polls" showed high approval for the liar in chief all the wing nuts as well as 45 would be referring to them hourly. Anything they don't like is fake news.

How did the pre-election polls turn out?

You are right to cite that, but it should not be used as an excuse to dis every poll from here to eternity.

Predicting voter behavior and gauging the general approval rating of the president is not the same thing. The polls are perfectly capable of telling us what the mood of the country is at any given time.

Have you heard anything that sounds credible explaining how the election polls could have been so far off?

They just couldn't account for the electoral college.
