Trump revealed highly classified information to Russian diplomats

As Nixon told David Frost:

When the president does it, that means that it is not illegal

I've heard discussions lately that the Constitution is set up with safeguards and checks but there is a big hole basically when it comes to the powers and options open to the person who is the president. It seems as if we have relied on norms and customs and the good intentions of whoever is in that office but we have crossed into new territory with this one. He has no concept of so many things having to do with the government and history in general. It is a dangerous situation. Now he's jeopardized intelligence from some other country. How much damage is he going to do?

The president’s disclosures to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador in their Oval Office meeting last week jeopardized a critical source of intelligence on the Islamic State — an information-sharing arrangement considered so sensitive that details have been withheld from allies and tightly restricted even within the U.S. government, current and former U.S. officials said. Trump appeared to be boasting of the “great intel” he receives when he described a looming terror threat, according to an official with knowledge of the exchange. As president, Trump has broad authority to declassify government secrets, making it unlikely that his disclosures broke the law.

There's no "new territory"... leftists just don't care about scandals and cover-ups under a dem potus.

No medical records. No tax returns. No real divestiture of business interests. No respect for the office. No clue about American history. His children holding positions in his administration. No experience in government. No experience in an elected office.

Right. Fits the profile of most of our presidents. I see your point. Not.

“This is code-word information,” said a U.S. official familiar with the matter, using terminology that refers to one of the highest classification levels used by American spy agencies. Trump “revealed more information to the Russian ambassador than we have shared with our own allies.”

The revelation comes as the president faces rising legal and political pressure on multiple Russia-related fronts. Last week, he fired FBI Director James B. Comey in the midst of a bureau investigation into possible links between the Trump campaign and Moscow. Trump’s subsequent admission that his decision was driven by “this Russia thing” was seen by critics as attempted obstruction of justice.

One day after dismissing Comey, Trump welcomed Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak — a key figure in earlier Russia controversies — into the Oval Office. It was during that meeting, officials said, that Trump went off script and began describing details of an Islamic State terrorist threat related to the use of laptop computers on aircraft.

For almost anyone in government, discussing such matters with an adversary would be illegal. As president, Trump has broad authority to declassify government secrets, making it unlikely that his disclosures broke the law.

What will it be tomorrow, pics of Putin greasing him up while he's bent over, while Pence and Sessions play dueling banjos.

Sorry that some of the righties still back a man where there is something everyday that points more and more of this clown being dirty. If it was something here or there then I might understand how one may stand behind him (no pun) but every goddamn day.

News for you righties, Obama is not President any longer and to lefties Bush is  not President any longer.

Hillary is not President.

Anyone backing this guy is part of the problem, not the solution.

Let me know when he gets weaker and more needy than this... he literally asked Putin for mercy.

President Obama: "On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space."

President Medvedev: "Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you…"

President Obama: "This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility."

President Medvedev: "I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir, and I stand with you."

But Obama isn't president any more, cancer is president. At least cancer is president for now.

You're an idiot.

There's no two ways about it.

This has been demonstrated again and again and again ad nauseum, and yet you persist.

And what part of this little dialog was classified at a code word level? What secrets did President Obama disclose?

Trump shared intelligence data that could likely reveal sources to the Russians because he was bragging about how good our sources are. This is inexcusable. This likely also exposed the identity of the Secret source who didn't want to be revealed as an entity who was helping the U.S. This has done damage to our reputation as trustworthy in the world of counter-intelligence. It likely will reduce the information we get from others.

In a move of self-preservation I imagine the U.S. intelligence community will be more reserved in what they brief the commander in chief on.

Assuming that he did share classified info during a meeting with a foreign dignitary... the president has WIDE latitude to discuss... disclose... and conduct policies. That applied to Obama and now trump.

Let's use one set of standards... mkay?

How is it possible for a person who can type and operate a computer to be this incomparably stupid!

Trump has the authority to order a nuclear strike on Paris! That doesn't mean it'd be a smart thing to do.

Saying it's okay because he has the "latitude" to do it is using the same reason a dog uses when he licks his balls: BECAUSE HE CAN!

Are all Trump supporters this stupid or are you a particularly stunning example?

Yes, he does have wide latitude but when you are given classified info from another country (Israel) and then pass it on to an Iran loving country as Russia, I don't think if I was a head of state in any country that would share anything with Trump and say let U.S. be damn.

And he's gonna get to meet a bunch of those Heads of State when he goes to Europe and the Middle East next week.

This is going to be fun to watch.

I'm so glad you think it's "fun". I'm not having fun...people are losing sleep over this jerk...people will continue to lose sleep, and more, over this jackass. He has no business running the country; he is a sick puppy; and I find it hard to believe that everyone around him didn't know that going in...including Pence, Sessions, and the rest of his bottom-of-the barrel appointees.

Get some historical perspective, for crying out loud. If you or other people are losing sleep over this, then they should be grateful that they're better off than 99% of the people that have ever inhabited this planet and that they have the time and the material wherewithal to obsess over it. If you're losing sleep over this, you must not have much to worry about.
