The linked story below presents a rational analysis of the events that's worth reading and understanding. It's main point, that Assad had nothing to gain by gassing civilians, is undeniable. With Russia's aid, Assad is winning his civil war and destroying ISIS in Syria. Why blow everything with a chemical attack that accomplished nothing other than inviting the American retaliatory attack?

Face it, we've been lied to by our presidents before -- and by a Pentagon that enthusiastically backed up presidential lies leading to war.

And, once again, events signal that Russian technology -- in this case -- is much better than our own, and was able to divert or destroy 39 of the Tomahawk Cruise Missiles which did not hit their targets and seemingly just "disappeared."

Films of the blitzed airport's damages inflicted by the missiles which did hit their targets, show that the main runway was undamaged. More importantly, they do not reveal any equipment that would and should have been there if chemical weapons were handled at that location.

Who the fuck are we supposed to trust?

Who or what is WND? Please ... I'm missing the point of your response. Clearly, I'm not endorsing the story I linked to my comment, but some of it raises real questions that beg for investigation. If Assad did order the gas attack, why? Barrel bombs would have achieved perhaps even a greater body count and would not have raised the supposed ire of the Pussy Grabber. I certainly have no confidence in any statement uttered or tweeked by Trump, nor any of his gang.

Allegedly, Trump cultivated an image of him wanting to befriend and ally with Putin. The same Putin who won him the White House. Now it looks like the Trumpers want war with Russia.

Unconfuse me, anyone?

No kidding. It is very difficult these days to sift through information and figure out what's true. That being said, the link from information clearing house seems to be a part of World News Daily, which, if I'm not mistaken is a right wing outlet not known for accurate posting. I think they are more in the genre of Alex Jones type of hype? (WND). I thought perhaps it was a typo: WND instead of WMD but it is apparently a reference to the "news" outlet. Here is a report from the Guardian that may shed some light on this incident. Of course the point you brought up about why Assad would do this now is a good question. It is indeed a confusing situation.

I'm personally wondering if the whole thing wasn't cooked up between 45 and Putin with Putin's permission. The purpose would be to put distance between Putin and 45 to try and make it look as if 45 wasn't in bed with him, a kabuki theater to try and discredit all the 45/Russia connections? Just my thoughts.

Russia has denied that Syria launched a chemical weapons attack. Does their argument have any credibility?
Syria’s military has “categorically denied” responsibility for the attack. Russia, which is heavily backing the Assad government, said a Syrian government airstrike had hit a “terrorist warehouse” holding “toxic substances”.

That claim does not fit with facts on the ground, for several reasons. An airstrike on a weapons depot with high explosives would have destroyed much of the sarin immediately, and distributed any that survived over a much smaller area.

“The pattern of casualties isn’t right for the distribution of materials that you would get if you had a location with toxic materials breached by an airstrike. It’s more consistent with canisters that have distributed [chemical weapons] over a wider population,” Guthrie said.

While it is impossible to assess the exact amount of chemical agent used immediately, the extent and distribution of the casualties are consistent with the use of hundreds of kilos.

Sarin is too complicated and expensive for rebels to have manufactured themselves, and while they might potentially have obtained some supplies of stolen nerve agents or other gas, it is very unlikely to be more than a few kilos.

“If they have [sarin], it would be in minute quantities, maybe a kilo or so,” said De Bretton Gordon. The high numbers of woman and children among the casualties was not consistent with a military depot, he added.

Finally, the Syrian manufacturing process for sarin involves creating and storing two key components, both far more stable than the nerve agent itself. They are mixed to create sarin hours – or at most days – before it is used, said Dan Kaszeta, a chemical weapons expert and former officer in the US Army’s chemical corps.

So an airstrike on a storage facility would be unlikely to release sarin itself. And because one of the two components is highly flammable isopropyl alcohol, or rubbing alcohol, you would expect a fireball, which has not been observed.

Oh, please, these guys can't even sort out the White House--it's a complete mess. Do you really think they could cook up a plot like that? C'mon, get real.

Assad did it precisely for the reason Graham said, he's is telling Trump F U--giving Trump the finger, so to speak. Now Assad's flying out of that base again and Trump and the US military look like incompetent assholes.

Imagine that.

The truly ironic thing is that after 50 years of anti-war, anti-establishment sentiment and activity on my part, I now trust the generals more than the President. I don't think they're going to let this moron get us into a "shootin' war with the Russkis" as Major Kong so eloquently put it in Strangelove.

Rebel attack? No. Had to be Syrian or Russian warplanes.

"Samples taken from the site of a deadly toxic gas attack in Syria and analyzed by British scientists have tested positive for sarin or a sarin-like substance, Britain's U.N. Ambassador Matthew Rycroft told the U.N. Security Council on Wednesday.

"The United Kingdom therefore shares the U.S. assessment that it is highly likely that the regime was responsible for a sarin attack on Khan Sheikhoun on 4 April," Rycroft said."

As I pointed out above, Assad, with Russia's aid, was winning the Syrian civil war.  So why would he try to aggravate or insult Trump?  Assad is no idiot, the last thing his regime needs is America as an active, on the ground enemy.  Your analysis doesn't ring true.

Othershoe:  You make several good points here, but until we know the truth, it's all conjecture.  For certain, Assad doesn't need or want American air power operating inside Syria.  I doubt very much that he was involved with the sarin incident.  And the rebels fighting against him don't have the equipment or the expertise to create, mix, and deliver sarin gas.  They don't have a warehouse storing the stuff, not anywhere as far as has been made public.  The other two possibilities are Russia and the U.S. -- both of which have sarin stocks and the means to mix and deliver the gas.

Putin thus far has supported Assad's regime and there are no indications his loyalty to Assad has suddenly changed.  What would Russia gain by such an attack which would infuriate the U.S.? Your idea that it may be the result of collusion between Putin and Trump to divert attention from the election hacking and Russian interference, may be absolutely correct.

Considering the limited number of casualties (less than 100), it's apparent the event was designed for PR purposes.  But why, and by whom?  Anyone?

Surely you realize the U.S. has been conducting airstrikes in Syria for some time now????

You must also realize by now that Assad is quite insane and doesn't give a hoot about "rebel" civilians. He seems quite willing to destroy his country to make his point that he is in charge.......

Did Trump Attack Syria for Personal Profit?

"At any other time, this (fill in the blank) would be the scandal of the decade. Now, with Donald Trump as president, we call it Monday.

Thursday evening, Trump attacked Syria, a sovereign country, with 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles. This act of war was done without Congressional authorization, even after Trump’s August, 2013, tweet that “Obama needs Congressional approval” before attacking Syria in nearly-identical circumstances.

The following morning, headlines like this one appeared in the business press: Raytheon, maker of Tomahawk missiles, leads premarket rally in defense stocks:

Defense and energy stocks dominated the list of premarket gainers on the S&P 500 Friday, led by Tomahawk missile-maker Raytheon Corp., after U.S. missile strikes against a Syrian air base overnight.

Donald Trump apparently owns Raytheon stock. In May, 2016, Trump reported to the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) that he owned Raytheon stock. Interestingly, this FEC report does not appear to include the extensive web of offshore anonymous shell corporations Trump uses to mask assets..."

A less than honest appraisal from the far, far, left ourfuture.org. imagine that. The reality is stocks jiggled more about oil than anything else. As it always does when something "new" happens in the M/E. Gives stockbrokers an excuse to scrub some more commission $$ off their clients.

(CNN)The US military and intelligence community has intercepted communications featuring Syrian military and chemical experts talking about preparations for the sarin attack in Idlib last week, a senior US official tells CNN.

The intercepts were part of an immediate review of all intelligence in the hours after the attack to confirm responsibility for the use of chemical weapons in an attack in northwestern Syria, which killed at least 70 people. US officials have said that there is "no doubt" that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is responsible for the attack.
The US did not know prior to the attack it was going to happen, the official emphasized. The US scoops up such a large volume of communications intercepts in areas like Syria and Iraq, the material often is not processed unless there is a particular event that requires analysts to go back and look for supporting intelligence material.

Putin is a war criminal. There is no ambiguity on bombing civilian areas with cluster bombs. There is no ambiguity in bombing hospitals and schools. There is not the guise of mistake, they were intentionally targeted. I would give everything I own for ten minutes in a room with Putin......judo....tough guy.....he is a murderous bastard killing helpless children, not as collateral damage, but as the target. He cannot die quick enough. At least the American Mob had an honor code......he needs to die, and his puppet in Syria right behind him. Murderers!

Putin and Assad claimed that they had nothing to do with the sarin gassing that killed men, women and children on the 4th.  They claimed that their bombs mistakenly hit a poison gas storage building.

And now we've bombed an ISIS warehouse that stored poison gas and other chemical weaponry -- releasing toxic agents that killed numbers of civilians nearby. In other words, now we've done exactly what Assad and Putin said they did.

So, once again, what if Assad and/or Russia HAD NOTHING WHATEVER TO DO WITH THE GAS ATTACK THAT KILLED KIDS?

Reality?

Please take the time to watch the documentary on HBO on Syria. Are you fricking kidding. Do you think this is just about the most recent Sarin gassing. As bad as ISIS is in Syria, it was quoted that 97% of the atrocities in Syria have been committed by the Syrian administration and their Russian backers. You are like a child in your understanding of these monsters, the role for forty years of America's foreign policy to undermine the Syrian administration of the father and the son, our tacit support for the Saudis and the Israelis financial backing of ISIS to undermine the same. There are no clean hands in Syria, but bombing civilian targets and specifically schools and hospitals requires war crime trials. It does not require more war. Absolute and total sanctions against Russia, but to pretend that these monsters may not be monsters.....it is like a child with some sort of naive fantasy. Putin and his puppet need to die. Sanctions work, and now is the time for us to take the lead by example. Get the F out of the middle east, and put a coalition together which squeezes Russia until the tyrant is hung in the streets and the Syrian people string up their monster by his ankles.

I agree with you that Assad and Putin are monsters.  My comments in this thread are not meant to defend either of these murderers, but are meant to probe what we're being told by Trump and gang -- including his Pentagon.  The non-existent Tonkin Gulf incident prefaced our entry into the Vietnam catastrophe, and our first lost war.  Saddam's non-existent weapons of mass destruction ushered us into the invasion of Iraq and we're still fighting there with no light whatever at the end of this one of many tunnels of destruction, waste and misery.  Now we're being told that Assad and Putin dropped sarin gas on civilians, which has brought on our new and first involvement in attacking Assad and Putin in Syria's chaotic bastion of misery.

With good reason, I surely do not trust Trump, nor our Pentagon, nor the CIA's explanations of this latest Syrian atrocity.

Assad is now claiming the sarin gassing didn't happen but was staged.

Putin says their bombers hit a sarin storage bunker.

Our government now admits our own bombers hit a chemical weapons storage facility which resulted in the deaths of innocent civilians.

And, by the way, I absolutely endorse the concept of hanging Putin, Assad and Trump, which would make our world a better place for humans and their families.

Once again, who are we supposed to trust? Bernie Sanders, where are you now that we need you?
