I do not get it. People have affairs. People get divorced. Alabama supported President Trump by almost 80% to 20%, yet this immoral man was celebrated and the governor who seems like a Sunday school teacher next to Trump is being raked over the coals. I never understood the hypocrisy in Alabama as a kid, and I am no closer to understanding the same as an old man.

Trump is a yankee. They will tolerate his indiscretions, but they don't like their elected homegrown officials diddling.

That makes complete sense to me as I watched my grandmother the Southern Baptist Sunday School teacher get really upset with family and friends, but have no problem watching her soap operas and all the diddling. I still do not know what this man did wrong. I mean impeachment seems so drastic for having an extra marital affair. What a beautiful natural environment Alabama is......but the culture reminds me of a third world country fighting modernity.....kinda like the Taliban.

Although it isn't right what he did with the campaign money, don't all politician's?

I still think it's the diddling. Haven't you ever seen the sign as you cross the Al/Fl border?

WE DON'T CARE IF YOU DIDDLE BUT IF YOU ARE A POLITICIAN OR CHRISTIAN AND WE CATCH YOU, YOU WILL GO STRAIGHT TO HELL.

Let's face it a diddler in Alabama is much worse than a carpetbagger.

Sounds a little like republican/convict/speaker/child molester Denny Hastert who paid millions in hush money to the 14 year old he abused.

Vikingwoman

He also fired the head of an Alabama law enforcement agency when the guy told him he couldn't allow his paramour to run the state. If that's not enough Mason and her husband and Bently all went on vacation together recently. LOL!

Alabama governor resigns, pleads guilty to charges tied to allegations he tried to cover up affair with a top aide

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley (R) resigned Monday after fighting for more than a year against allegations he used public resources to carry out and conceal an affair with his former top aide.

Pressure built on Bentley to step down over the sex scandal as state lawmakers opened impeachment hearings against him this week and state Republican officials called for him to leave the governor's mansion.

Bentley also pleaded guilty on Monday to two misdemeanor charges related to covering up the alleged affair, one for failing to file a major contribution report and another for knowingly using campaign contributions for personal use, according to the state's attorney general office.

“I love the people of this state with all my heart,” he told reporters as he announced his resignation inside the Alabama State Capitol.

On his way to officially resign, Bentley showed up to the Montgomery County Jail and posed for a mug shot.

I missed or it wasn't reported at first that he'd used state funds to carry out the affair... we need more info.

Oh... so now this is not "just sex"... it's condemnable... and reflects upon his political party.

Standard leftist hypocrisy.

Evangelicals are leaving their churches over Donald Trump

President Donald Trump might be the most divisive politician in history, but for many, politics is left behind when sitting in the pews. For others, bringing politics to the altar is driving them away.

A survey from The Washington Post interviewed evangelicals before the 2016 election and after. Over one in ten left their church by mid-November and about 15 percent of church-going Americans who think politics has become too divisive left their church as well.

Two groups ultimately ended up leaving their churches: Those who liked Trump while the pastor did not and those who didn’t like Trump but felt their pastor did. The no-win situation might be one of the reasons that pastors stopped talking about politics after November.

The Post cited a forthcoming article that outlines two decades of data gathered about what happens to parishioners when they disagree with their church. However, Pew data also reveals that progressive and moderate evangelicals have been fleeing from churches for decades as their churches were taken over by the right-wing.

No hypocrisy from me Sparky.   I spoke out loud against Bill Clintons indiscretions.  But you weren't there to hear it.

Yes it reflects on "his party" for sure!  These conservatives preach this clean living family values bullshit day in and day out, but behind closed doors they are the most immoral hypocrites I've ever seen.

I've been on both sides of the isle, I know from whence I speak.

Overall I see Liberals more moral then conservatives.

I don't hear much condemnation from the RIGHT on Bentley.  Do you?

Actually I have, haven't you? Or are you making assumptions? It seems Alabama State Republicans pushed for his resignation. I'd consider that "condemnation" for his actions, wouldn't you?

Then you really are clueless. Just because someone espouses the befits of and desire to promote families doesn't make them any more or less pious. And in my recollection bill didn't use govt resources to commit not sex with that woman... I don't think anyone was harmed really either. It was already very clear that he was a hound dog. You thinking one side or the other is more moral is a total joke... could you be anymore conditioned and biased?

They say this guy did use govt resources to hook up... that harms the tax payers and IS a breech of public trust.

Minor grumblings are all I've heard. Nothing from anyone of note.

The R's I referenced are from the state legislature. Who are you waiting on to grumble? They essentially forced him out and it now looks like he may get some jail time. Seems like enough to me.
