It is appalling to see propaganda on local tv posing as news. There is a monopoly on crazy talk and the way they disguise it as a legitimate news program is horrifying. It is no accident that 80% of folks locally voted for President Trump as they rarely have straight up news which is not slanted. The slanted news is one thing, but it spills over to sports. I have NEVER seen such garbage pass as sports coverage. There is no NFL, NBA, or MLB coverage. I will see local high school, local junior college, or college sports coverage and rarely discussion of the pros. I mean in my life, I have never seen the absence of coverage of pro sports. At first I thought this was by accident or utter incompetence, but after watching the clever use of the news commercials to propagandize local coverage, I honestly believe the lack of coverage of national sports is largely because of the high percentage of latin and black athletes in the major pro sports. Yet, the really wierd and twisted coverage of college football is predominately African American athletes, but there is this pride of the old confederacy in the SEC.......an objective person who has watched TV all over America has NEVER seen such propaganda pass as objective news coverage. We can blame President Trump for being a magnet for the lowest common denominator, but how could anything else happen with the slanted news the panhandle is given.

I agree with you!
He should not be allowed an audience. The man is a pathological liar and a fraud.

A wight wing propaganda machine. He turns my stomach.

I have not seen this broadcaster you are speaking of but there are several points that I think deserve further comment.

All people make decisions based on whatever information they have on a subject. Garbage-In-Garbage-Out, GIGO, from data processing history is applicable here. The panhandle of Florida is likely not the only place such propaganda is spewed. The choice of which teams to cover is indeed a subtle one and I think you've hit it on the head with the SEC/Dixie connection. Good propaganda is very subtle, undetectable to the casual observer and this is a good example of that.

A news caster on MSNBC mentioned visiting her parents. They were in favor of the so called travel ban as a means of stemming the tide of refugees that they thought were streaming into our country. Where did they get this impression? I think it was from watching FOX news. I tuned them in a while back. There was a  graphic behind the news caster. He was talking about the refugee problem. The graphic showed some dire situation on the Turkish border showing large numbers of people flooding into Turkey. There was no connection between what he was saying and the graphic other than the apparent attempt to falsely link the Turkish problem with our immigration/refugee choices.

Without knowing how they were being manipulated the viewers took in the information and the graphic and assumed that from somewhere (god knows we don't have borders with countries with refugees fleeing a civil war) we were being inundated with refugees and the ban was going to "protect" us from this imaginary threat.

We have to be very discerning in our viewing/reading. Reality is the basis for understanding and problem solving.

I do exactly that.  Then I send a nastygram to Sinclair.

No alt wight wing extremist deserves a platform on network television posing to be "news". Let them be honest about who they are and what they are about.

I'm a lot of things pal, but snowflake ain't one of 'em.

This "snowflake" tag is totally condescending. It is meant to belittle the complaint as being overly sensitive. It is intended to let the bully or propagandist continue his work unchecked.

In reality it is not a small or insignificant complaint.

You lack standing. You're not being harmed by programming you don't like. There's no easy way to condemn subjective intolerance in a free society... even when it's disguised as enlightenment.

Toughen up buttercups.

Oblivious... good strategy.

https://frameworkforafreesociety.org/dimensions/individual-rights/

Knowledge that one’s individual rights, including property rights (understood such that costs are internalized), are secure and will remain so is essential for the investments that make free societies so innovative and productive.

A free society ensures profits are justly earned based on value creation, rather than access to political power or by imposing unjust costs on others.

In fulfilling its appropriate role, the government should protect against violations of our persons and property, enforce contracts and legal decisions, protect against fraud and significant direct negative externalities, and defend the country’s territorial integrity from foreign aggression.

In a free society, government is limited to those activities for which coercion works better than voluntary cooperation and competition, consistent with individual rights. It also is constrained by the rule of law under which every individual and entity is treated equally.

My objection is that the presentation is disguised as part of the local news. It is integrated in the same. There once was licensing of broadcast TV, which had requirements of community service and balance. Now, you have seen a flood of news commericials and hour long paid commercials which were absolutely unheard of fifty years ago. I am not complaining about a trivial disagreement of content of a paid propaganda piece, rather the systematic use of the same to capture an audience and brainwash them without alternatives. I am appalled by what local broadcasters assume in their news reading when they go slightly off script. On an ABC local affiliate like Wear TV I just blink twice as I ask.....did I really hear that.

The worst this week when on sunday this quasi commercial propaganda apparatus was discussing the talc issues with ovarian cancer. I have lost friends to ovarian cancer. It is a horrible death. It is a serious subject if a company like Johnson and Johnson instructs women to use talc to freshen up in their genital area. Talc workers are given warnings of the risk at the mining operations, but Johnson and Johnson and others who have talc in their products have fought giving simple warnings to consumers of POSSIBLE cancer links. Well the infomerical was so slanted in favor of the large companies and everybody suing wrongfully to become enriched that it entirely ran away from the FACT.......it is causing cancer.

The most ironic part of this dichotomy of the theater of the absurd is a lawyer like Mike Slocum is running ads on this network showing him shooting a deer, and bragging about getting the big buck.....25 million dollars.....it is obscene.....the contradictions which ignore that real people are dying because of dangerous products introduced into the flow of commerce. When an entire population can be controlled at a local level with no competing networks or thought you have the elements required for fascism to succeed. I may be a snowflake in my sick old age, but it does not make my observations any less truthful.

If you think that you have standing that you (or others) are being harmed... take it to the judiciary.

The solution is already in place. What do you want?

Food Babe Advisor Mark Hyman Selling Parabens He Links To Cancer

mark hyman and his local propaganda Mirrorhyman

It’s been a while since we last visited the online store of Vani Hari’s (the “Food Babe’s”) trusted advisor, Dr. Mark Hyman.  I was poking around on his virtual shelves last night and noticed the inventory had grown substantially since discovering he was selling a self-described cancer-causing supplement a few months ago. Given the shady history of all of Food Babe’s advisors, five will get you ten that we’ll discover another skeleton in Hyman’s closet now that he’s marketing all these new wares.  So I thought that you, dear reader, might like to do some online shopping with me.  What say you?  Let’s pull out those credit cards and…

Oops!  I’m so embarrassed.  Safety first!  Before we shop here at Bad Science Debunked, we always review our Safety Rule O’The Day.  If you’re a regular here, you know that these rules always come from the people we’re actually buying from.

Today we’re going to pay close attention to parabens.  For critical advice on this class of chemicals, Dr. Hyman links us to the gold standard of medical web sites, The Huffington Post, which puts on its best white lab coat and tells us:  “Breast Cancer Study Finds Parabens in Virtually All Tumors.”1,2

mark hyman facebook post on parabens
Dr. Mark Hyman shares his wisdom on parabens (by linking to a Huffington Post article).  (click/enlarge)

The Huffington Post piece links parabens to cancer, and since Hyman is a golly-gee-whiz real live doctor who hardly ever sells us product he says are harmful, I suppose we’d better take his advice and avoid parabens.

Right, then!  We can finally go shopping!

Hey, how about this nice jar of supplements?  I have no idea what the hell it does, but it’s got a nice scientific-sounding name–OmegaGenics EPA-DHA 500 EC–and it’s sold by a doctor:3

This supplement sold by Dr. Mark Hyman contains methylparaben and propylparaben, which he links to breast cancer. (click/enlarge)

But you know, the one thing we should probably do before we type in our credit card number and click the “buy” button is peruse the list of ingredients.  You can never be too careful these days.  Why, just moments ago, Dr. Hyman was telling us how dangerous parabens were.  So what’s in this supplement he’s selling us?  Ahem:3

Marine lipid concentrate [fish (anchovy, sardine, and mackerel) oil], softgel shell (gelatin, glycerin, water), enteric coating [methacrylic acid copolymer, propylene glycol, triacetin, glyceryl monostearate, triethyl citrate, vanillin, polysorbate 80, methyl paraben (preservative), and propyl paraben (preservative)], natural lemon flavor, mixed tocopherols (antioxidant), rosemary extract, and ascorbyl palmitate (antioxidant)

Wait.  What?  Methylparaben and propylparaben?  But Hyman just posted a link to Facebook that warned us that parabens were linked to cancer!

You knew this was coming, didn’t you?

This isn’t the first time Dr. Hyman has been caught with his pants down. He has previously claimed that caramel level IV coloring causes cancer, but that’s exactly the additive you’ll find in the Neuromins supplements sold via his online store. He warned that the artificial sweetener xylitol would slow your metabolism and add belly fat, but sells the supplement Endefen, which contains xylitol. Pure cane sugar is to be avoided, according to the good doctor, but you’ll find it in his $50 Pure Lean Chocolate Powder.

To quote the great Winnie the Pooh: “Oh, bother!”.

It’s not hard to see how poor Vani Hari (the “Food Babe”) went astray in her own career, having been caught selling nearly three dozen products containing the same ingredients she says are toxic, when she’s getting her advice from doctors like Mark Hyman, who sets such a fine example. What will we find next on the shelves of the stores of a Food Babe advisor?

Stay tuned and see.

It was just a suggestion. It's still a free country... kinda. Just don't be surprised when the people you think it fine to make decisions for resist... and are legally justified in doing so. Remember "to each their own"?

No... I guess you wouldn't.

A govt that respects an individual shouldn't care a bit about your gender, race, sexuality... etc. Unless of course if you are being victimized or harmed in some way. The laws should be common sense and clear. We don't have literally tens of thousands of laws, rules, edicts... to ensure justice. They are deliberately convoluted and complicated to ensure govt controls. A just justice system wouldn't have any interest or bias or skin in the game. It'd just be a fair and impartial arbiter... not an authoritarian command and control big brother police state. It's all been built by using fear too. The same sort of manipulation that you appear to be so concerned about when some podunk bs artist goes on a local tv station. You really ought to give your position some more thght... be careful what you wish for.

What do you want?

A level playing field where information is exchanged in an open market, not a closed monopoly in markets which have no alternatives. I was in Birmingham two years ago, and I could not find MSNBC on any cable channel. Now they want to kill PBS which is free tv which strives to give information without slant. It is time to take the money out of politics. Campaign financing reform is a start, but the one sided control of a market is a fascist dream, and the result is anti government, anti intellectual propaganda to utilize racism to gain financial control and power. People are totally brainwashed with no access to ideas which may challenge the oligarchy's control of the American peasant.

I don't think a CEO or CFO provides enough value to justify 300x-600x the salaries of employees. I also am in total agreement w/you on Mike Slocum...don't want to see his ads...reminds me of Sarah Palin slaughtering a reindeer at Christmas. And, BTW, to John Morgan of Morgan & Morgan...we have plenty of attorneys in the Pensacola area that can handle a wide variety of cases. We don't need you or your stupid "for the people" slogan.
