Anyone read Cynthia Tucker's column on DeVos this week?  This excerpt should be scary to almost anyone, liberal or otherwise:

DeVos, a billionaire...[is]a member of an ultraconservative Calvinist sect that believes in “predestination” — God has already decided who is going to heaven before we are born — and worships private enterprise. Speaking to The Gathering, an annual meeting of super-wealthy conservative Christians in 2001, DeVos compared “the system of education in the country” to a biblical battlefield where Israelites fought the Philistines, according to Politico.

In other words, she means to push vouchers, which would starve public schools of desperately needed funds, to advance her right-wing religious views. Nothing is more dangerous to liberal democratic values than that.

Thirty years of voucher and charter schools and they have failed almost universally. I will take the advice of a frontline teacher dealing with education issues all day long before I will give one second to somebody who has never taught children spouting off about a better way. The truth is the American Public education system has been a huge success which has driven our nation's economic success. The women is worried about grizzly bear invasions of schools and you think anybody will take this person seriously. The religious doctrine is very similar to what my brother and wife believe. They believe their wealth is directly connected to their godliness. They believe poor people have not worked hard enough and have been cursed by God. I love them dearly, but it is not a Christian bible based philosophy. It is taking scripture out of context to justify less than stellar economic bullying.

Thanks for your input, sea. "Economic bullying" is a fine phrase we may well need again as we deal with Trump's swamp of a cabinet.

The federal education command and control apparatus should be largely dismantled... leave it a small administrative tool to facilitate and direct any state or student grievances to the judiciary or legislative branch. Stop clogging the system with bureaucracy.

A total crackpot for sure but after all she is 1% and will surely provide cover for the fakers that come up with fake universities. Can these bastards gag every Senator that tries to expose the truth?

I suspect my Brother contacted a so called University in Arizona to hire his daughter's husband who is coaching soccer at a Christian college in West Virgina. First, my niece has always worked even with three children right now as a special education teacher. She is the bread winner as a coach in soccer gets paid at most about 10k, and might if lucky be given some work in administration, but I doubt he makes 20k. Well, my brother has tried to coax her to come to arizona. He suddenly got an offer to coach at a Christian University which has fewer students than my Junior high had and people are spending 30k for tuition and room and board a year. It is an utter joke to call it a University, and an even bigger joke at what this private University calls a college education. I guess money makes right, but when I saw the comments by students who had spent a year at this university, it was obvious even though they were devout Christians they felt they were being scammed and were getting an inferior education........to the last comment they were advising people to go to Arizona state universities where they could get a good education and save money. There is this strange parallel world of academic accomplishment in these for profit private universities which are largely responsible for the student loan crisis in America.......for profit simply does not work in education. I bet my wife that my brother made a large cash donation to the school, and boom......they send a job offer.........I am happy for my brother to be near the grandkids as he has successfully gotten two of his three children to move to Arizona, but his son married a strong willed Virginia girl who wants to move back to virginia......they will not win that battle as her father is equally wealthy as my brother and has offered his family business to my nephew who is running my brother's construction companies in Illinois and pulling down a huge salary as each side tugs to get the family near their parents.......hell my dad died when I was ten, and nobody gave a rat's tail where I lived with my wife as I had to do it the hard way......earn it myself.....which was a gift that has kept on giving.
