My wife will be going to the nuthouse for super bowl Sunday.

No, I have not driven her insane...........yet. I get together with about eight high school friends on superbowl Sunday. We have been doing it for over forty years and we play poker and this silly stocks and bonds game we used to play in high school. We even played risk for awhile, as some of our members of the group got whacked in the great recession and our usual poker game was too steep for them. In any case one of the wives takes the women over to her eighty something mothers house who has a senior apartment in the former Batavia Illinois Sanatarium where Mary Todd Lincoln was committed by her son Todd after Abe was killed. They converted this old limestone block building into about twenty senior apartments. I read a book about Mary Todd Lincoln who would talk about how excited she was to be able to leave the sanitarium on Saturday afternoons and go ten miles south to a large town called Aurora where she would shop and these wonderful shops on broadway street. The town had a boom after the war because the Burlington Northern had put a round house there and they were manufacturing and repairing trains, which led to many other factories locating in the town.

I hope Mrs. OATES enjoys the nut house.

It was an amazing building for the time......like the Betty Ford clinic. Beautiful limestone block in a bustling river town. The tri cities area of Geneva, St. Charles and Batavia had a great many swedes immigrate to America and there were a lot of Andersons, Petersons, and not too many vito's......it was a beautiful river valley where Mary would go shopping every Saturday in Aurora. She was often criticized as first lady for her shopping, but in the nut house she actually loved the fox valley which is one of the most beautiful places in the world.

They have done a great job of converting the building to housing units for the elderly, and the ladies have a blast entertaining the eighty something women who look forward to super bowl each year.

Her son who did the dirty deed was a lawyer in Chicago and the firm he was in still exists today and unfortunately I do not have the name for it. He was not real diligent visiting his mother.

I believe that Mary L. actually disowned him in the end because of his participation in getting her into the insane asylum, she never forgave him according to the bio.

It looked like a blowout early on but Gaga made it worth watching. The second half was classic. One of my mates watching along was at the equally historic 1958 championship game.
