Justice for Betty Sanders Brock

How horrible.

I know this woman's daughter and she told me the story. The guy is now living in Milton and owns the properties Betty had. She signed them over to him. I understand the Milton police have been unhelpful but the Idaho police are the one's who have jurisdiction. I don't know what a lawyer can do other than hire a PI?

I think this is more about guilt than justice. How does a family sit back and let this happen? I believe in the law. I believe in respecting grief and what it does to people. However, some guy in the family driveway why her husband was dying would have a talk with me as a family member and would be urged to move on.....and I do mean by urged. WTF. The guy is dying and the family allows a predator to set up in the driveway. No this go fund me page is a day and dollar short. People should have shown their concern when she was alive......my son would kick somebody's asz set up in our driveway hitting on Mrs. Seaoat, but then again Mrs Seaoat would kick that person's asz. Look, the first time I saw her being abused or any implication of the same, I would file immediately a guardianship of her person and estate. The cows in the barn yard and now they want revenge out of guilt in not doing a thing to protect this vulnerable woman.

The problem w/ all this was they tried,Oatie. They called DCF and they tried to see her but he wouldn't let them. I think they even called the police. The mother was either a very abused and manipulated woman or she was weak and let him do this. She had the opportunity to escape if she wanted to but she didn't. The daughter told me she had two broken ankles when they found her in the RV where he had abandoned her. They don't know how that happened but he supposedly left her there and they found her dead. DCF won't do anything if you stay there willingly.

DCF and the government was the wrong choice. The woman was in need of somebody to petition for a guardian. I have seen this done literally a hundred times usually with elderly people who are being abused by somebody who could gain financially. The family goes to a private attorney and files a petition and serves the woman to appear in court on a date certain to determine if she is able to take care of her person and financial affairs. It is used as a tool for witnesses to put into evidence what the individual has done and create a record, most judges will appoint temporary guardians, and will appoint what the call a guardian ad litem to make a report to the court. If they had done the correct thing, she probably would not have been allowed to leave the state, and if the guardian was appointed to not allow the transfer of property for about a year or two, this guy would have disappeared. They screwed up going to the government. With a guardian this guy would not have access to one dime and it would be easy to get an expert to say she was being manipulated after the doc reviewed the testimony. The perp would not spend for an expert because without access to her money he was done.....he would move on to his next vulnerable lonely woman. Now going after him may feel good, but it does nothing to protect a person who clearly needed help in the form of a guardianship.

What I do not understand is DCF has degreed social workers and the DCF investigators work in the field. They are trained and not degreed. Some are totally worthless.   The Guardian Ad Litem in this area is a volunteer program....why do they have more pull? The system is all screwed up.

DCF investigators are degreed. They can have an degree in any area like Art but they must be degreed. Which menas they don't have to have any experience in investigations and DCF does not train them in that. They train them in child welfare.

From what I understand the woman was not incompetent. Adult services went out there and did talk to her. She denied any abuse. If they suspected that they could have taken her to court. She may have been afraid but she denied any of it and there was nothing further they could do. Guardianship would not have been possible. If he psychologically manipulated her that is hard to prove.

A guardianship most certainly is possible. They are never easy when contested, but the purpose of the same by an experienced attorney is to establish a baseline of potential financial abuse. I have seen senior citizens who were not completely incompetent fight guardianships which their children petitioned the court and the guardianship was established in a limited and specific way, and I have seen petitions denied, and then six months later a new petition was approved. It is the process which puts heat on the abuser. It also allows for a voluntary decision by the target of financial abuse to allow a layer of protection by putting the guardian in charge of the estate of a person, and if a person scams a transfer of assets a constructive trust is put into effect and the person has to give those assets back. Most GAL are lawyers in Illinois and they will do interviews with all parties, and they will make an inventory of assets. One of the first questions a GAL will ask the person is would they voluntarily allow protection of their financial assets from being transferred. Usually this is done by asking if the person truly loves you and you love him, why would he or you object to a temporary three year guardianship of your estate to guarantee he is not going to exploit. Over half the time a good GAL can achieve the goal of the petition, and still allow the person to have the freedom of choice..........just an extra layer of protection. I would NEVER go to the state to solve this problem.......they have a completely different standard, and there are plenty of constitutional protections from government intrusions......however a civil guardianship has different standards. Even when they are initially denied, they set the baseline when assets start to disappear or are transferred the second petition is usually granted where there is a clear predator relationship.

The crux of this matter was not her property which was minimal. A trailer, I think. The point was her well being. For what ever reason she choose to stay w/ this man and DCF was the only available option to see about her.

I wish I had known...and it's possible I did, but just didn't hear anymore about it. I am sick because I could have found them a PI who I know is good. I agree, Seaoat, that legal procedures might have saved this woman. May she rest in peace.

There are dangerous predators among us. It is far more likely to be harmed by someone you know than a terrorist.

I hope you're not referring to John Krause?
