Two years ago we put up a thirty five foot flagpole with a light on top to keep the flag illuminated at night. We have gotten rid of direct TV and are really enjoying our streaming video. We contacted the local phone company where we had 10mg capacity on our DSL line and they upgraded our lines to the house, put a new modem in, and dropped our monthly bill by five bucks as we now have 25mg capacity and no problem with our streaming video over the Roku.

I had put a seventy mile antenna up on the house in Navarre and decided we would do the same at our home in a very small rural town in NW Illinois. I took 3 inch pvs and cut a six inch piece and then split it so the piece could cup the existing fiberglass flagpole at the top. We then took a piece of two by four and bolted the antenna into the board, and attached the board to the cut in half 3 inch pvc. I got the lull started by building a tent around the engine compartment and putting a large heater underneath it. We let it warm for four hours and was charging the battery at the same time. It fired up last night around 8pm, I put my wife in the safety harness and put her in the safety cage which we attached to the lull forklifts as the cage has pockets.

She initially used bungee cords to attach. Then zip ties, and then two large metal radiator type adjustable clamps. She tightened the clamps with the cut 3 inch pvc mating with the flagpole, and tightened the clamps. We now have close to 25 channels with fox, abc, nbc, and cbs coming in clear. Our monthly cost for TV is 14 for HBO and 20 for sling and we have about fifty premium channels streaming for 35 bucks where our direct tv had gotten over 125, which means we are saving $90 a month, plus we have totally free tv with the roku and antenna in florida now. Cable, dish, and direct tv are total rip offs.Just finished putting the antenna on top of the flagpole 20170113

You did it!

Mrs. Seaoat in a safety cage with harness 35 feet in the air did it. It was about twenty degrees with strong winds. She is superwoman. I think she will be bored when I am gone. Her older brothers used to play real rough with her as they were five and six years older, and I have always been thankful that they toughened her up before I came on the scene. She has her breakfast club on Wed. and they always want to know what her newest adventure has been. She definitely is not bored in retirement.

I grounded the light at the top of the flag pole, but did not ground the antenna wire, but did ground the booster which feeds the distribution into the house.   We had a tree two years ago get struck by and it took out our well.  The roots bent the old galvanized pipe under a parking lot, so when I made an insurance claim, they denied it because the well pump did not fry.  I had to spend 2k to get a boring company to run a new well line to the house, so if lightening strikes.....it will probably not be grounded at the distribution amp, and burn my house down.....but I will probably be dead, and mrs. seaoat will have a new boyfriend as her heroics are already known about by the fifty something men.....a real cougar in the making......she just needs to get rid of the dead weight.

A good ground is not so much for lighting it just makes the antenna work better.
