Has anybody eaten at a Portillos?

The very definition of American civilization. My wife and I live in the boonies and today after the surgery we treated ourselves to Portillos, and got off the interstate and simply had an exquisite Chicago hot dog, and fries. Simple pleasures, but I can only take so long in the woods before I need a good hot dog.

Nope. Are they even around here? Sounds good in any case, and glad you enjoyed it. The best hot dog I ever ate was at the original Surfburger on Pensacola Beach, back around 2004, before new people took over and ruined the dog. The new management eventually went out of business and it was no big loss to the restaurant scene, but I still miss the original. That dog was positively evil, large and tasty and sloppy with homemade chili and melted cheese and wonderful, caramelized sauteed onions -- not chopped, but soft, buttery ring segments. We considered it a rare and dangerous treat. The phenomenal view of Santa Rosa Sound didn't hurt, either, but several other restaurants have tried and failed at that location since Surfburger closed for good. I read in the Island Times the other day that yet another, called the Nola Cafe, is slated to open there soon. Good luck.

I like their Italian beef sandwich, dipped, with extra peppers.

Just what I love, but since being sick the peppers are no longer an option, and having surgery yesterday I could not have my usual which is a beef and hot dog with fries......too heavy as I have to plugs in my groin arteries and I do not want to strain when using the bathroom. Civilization is defined by how close you are to a Portillo restaurant. I am living in barbarian land, but once a month now I can visit civilization. Although with a drive I can go to Dekalb Illinois where they have university and a Portillo restaurant.

I will check them out. Where I live now I have to go twenty miles to get a good hot dog. Had a great place eight miles away, but they went out of business.
