Half Time score: UWF-31/Miss S&T-20

UWF rolled over S&T for the first 20 minutes of the game, with the score being 24-0 five-minutes or so into the 2nd Qtr. S&T began making adjustments and a couple of big plays to score 20 points in the last 10 minutes of the 2nd Qtr.

We'll see how the 2nd Half goes. One team will likely break out.

It has been interesting watching this level of play. Both teams have made mistakes that a Division I opponent would use to crush them thoroughly. Still, win or lose, Coach Shinnick is building a team that will become better over time. The players are motivated, and the fans are in love with them.

They did a good job turning the baseball field into a football field. The Blue Wahoos are in the playoffs at an away game tonight, and if they win, the football field needs to be changed back to a baseball field by tomorrow evening.  Razz

Now back to Blab for the second half......

Final Score: UWF-45/Miss S&T-28

It was a fun game to watch. Both teams played with passion. Both really aired out the football. Both ran risky offensive plays that would be immediately snuffed-out by the average Division I defense.

It is still way too early to say how good the Argos actually are; they may have just played two terrible teams in their first two games. We'll know more after the season is over. However, Coach Shinnick has laid a great foundation that will likely be built upon.

The PNJ had said the game was sold-out. However, when the TV camera panned the stadium, I noted empty seats all over. It was perhaps 2/3 full, but not stuffed with fans. The fans were definitely involved with the game, and there was interaction between players and the fans.

http://www.pnj.com/story/sports/2016/09/12/uwfs-nobles-peffers-honored-gsc-co-players-week/90266988/

Excerpts:

...Kaleb Nobles’ prolific arm and Austin Peffers’ steady leg earned both University of West Florida football players Gulf South Conference player of the week awards...

...Nobles, who passed for 503 yards and six touchdowns in the Argos’ 45-28 win Saturday against Missouri S& T, was named the offensive player of the week. The 503 yards are the second highest by any quarterback this season in NCAA Division II.

...Nobles finished Saturday’s game 27-of-47 with no interceptions and completed passes to eight receivers. The Fitzgerald, Georgia, native leads the GSC in passing yards, touchdowns and passing efficiency...

...Peffers, who has not missed an extra point (12-for-12) this season and narrowly missed being perfect on field goals, was named the special teams player of the week...

...The Argos (2-0) prepare for their second road game and longest trip when facing Chowan (1-1) in Murfreesboro, North Carolina, at 5 p.m. Saturday...

If I can't watch a live feed of the Argos Saturday, I will listen to the radio feed while I follow my Division I games.
