This show is brilliant. The best tv series of the year. It grew on me slowly, but it is the best character development I have seen in years. The complexity of this series requires multiple viewing. The ASPCA commercial in the last scene ties the role of the cat into the complexities of the character development. We are seeing a true American hero who is flawed at so many levels, this requires thought, and it makes me want to celebrate the true saints who walk among us, not glorified, not held in high esteem, who grind through solitary life often unnoticed, who understand the morality and what is important.......that diversity and the human experience is complex....not simple answers offered by people. The character development of the lead detective, the prosecutor, the various defense attorneys, and the judge were spectacular. The character development of the inmates was the closest to reality I have seen in any series. The characters developed in the immigrant community and the defendants family was off the wall why America has succeeded where others fail. I am sitting here watching this again, celebrating our wonderful country where as flawed as our system is......there is an American morality which prevails.....you need to watch the entire series, and it is essential to understand the symbolism of the cat.
