Good prices.

Nope. Prices remind me of Jerry's Drive In. But sort of out of the way for me. So did you try it yourself?

No I haven't. A friend emailed me the menu. I didn't know there was such a place but I plan on trying it.

I like my grits only one way.....lots of butter, over easy eggs on top which I mix with my grits, and plenty of pepper.......I found nothing on that menu which would attract me to the restaurant. Fish and grits is not what I grew up with, rather cheese biscuits, grits my way, bacon, and fresh orange juice. My wife when she first met me thought I was a hillbilly eating my grits, but she has been converted and we still enjoy the same most sunday mornings. The idea of mixing fish with my ritual.......not appealing.

Grew up on the coast and NEVER had fish and grits. I eat them the same as you describe, Seaoat.  I have recently had fish and grits and it's OK but not something I need on a regular basis.

There's another seafood restaurant that has opened on 9 Mile Road near the intersection of Pine Forest Road.  Gulf Coast Seafood.  I believe it is owned by the Patti family.  Nothing fancy and the prices are good is what I hear about it.

Grits are part of my heritage. It is something I have eaten since I was a child. I like them one way. Nothing is worse than dry grits or sloppy grits.....I am very particular. What is funny is my kids and my wife have learned my love of the same and it has passed to the next generation. I have gone to the fish house and had grits with a seafood lunch, and it was tolerable, but not something I would go out of my way to order.

Hashbrowns. Grits can't be found where I grew up (California).


When I get a big breakfast at Macs......my wife always eats the hashbrowns. I am not a big fan of the same, and she had them as a kid, but she has acquired my taste in grits. I think the Mac hash browns are dry and not very flavorful. I have enjoyed them in some breakfast places which kind of have a pan fried potatoes...but still prefer grits.

Grew up eating grits with butter, salt, lots of pepper with an over easy fried egg on top. 

We also grew up eating cheese grits with our fried mullet. We always had fresh mullet....fresh meaning caught the same day. Only two places in the area I eat fried mullet.....Joey Patti's and Chet's. I prefer Chet's in Pace. Fresh mullet curls when fried.

I hate grits . . . . and that is coming from someone who is not a picky eater but they are a zero on flavor and the texture is unappealing for some reason. I am kinda like Joe Pesci in My Cousin Vinny who while in a small rural town went with his girlfriend for breakfast at the local diner and when his order of bacon and eggs were placed in front of him he asked "what the hell is this anyway?" she didn't know either but it was funny scene . . . . another anecdotal story connected grits I will share . . . . . we had a gentleman I worked with on the railroad named Wesley Henderson who had transferred here from Kentucky (of all places) along with a few others and they were all called "Up Home Boys" because of their propensity to constantly make references to things from where they came as "up home" so it was unkind and a slightly derisive term. Anyhow Mr. Henderson had, like me, never eaten grits and once he tried them he absolutely loved them. An old head engineer named A.W. Barton heard about this and they caught a trip together to Chattahoochee and AW told how he told Mr. Henderson that he should grow some because they were hearty and easy to grow. AW was saying this in jest but Mr. Henderson (as the story goes) over the next couple weeks broke up ground on his property, got a box of grits and sowed his garden. Once that got out among his co workers he was forever to be called "Grits" and that's what everyone called him . . . .

I'm not all that fond of grits but have had cheese grits I like. But as with all corn and corn products they're not good on diverticula disease. I can get away every once in a while with a few frito's but even then suffer a bit.
