I have three houses under the new building code which required hurricane shutters or clips to be built into the brick by windows. We have not used it, and wonder if anybody is familiar with how long it takes them to put on the window and door protection on such a system. We have never had a reason to use it, but what is saved us in insurance premiums has been worth the investment which was mandatory under the new code.

Those three houses must be in Texas. It's a long drive so you best be getting on the road.

We have put our shutters up several times since acquiring them in 1996. We switched to accordion shutters in 2013. Haven't had to deploy those yet.

These are button connections in the brick, and very very heavy duty vinyl and kevlar fabric which snaps into place on all windows and doors. If I was healthy, I figure it would be an hour a house, but in my current condition......who knows.

We get the younger generation to come over and provide an assist. They live about a mile from us.

No experience with fabric shutters.  We have accordions on our main level but the large upper trapezoids have clear corrugated Lexan panels that we have our shutter contractor install (bolted on like metal panels) about June 1, and take down in November.   Way too high for us to deal with.   Takes him and a helper roughly an hour+ to put up and an hour to take down.   Worth the money.  Hubby's a retired carpenter who finally knows his limitations, especially at his age.   Took him a long time to allow other people to do stuff he thought he should be able to handle.  No shame in it, Sea, whether elderly, or whether ill.

I probably will hire a kid going to college who is doing some lawn cutting, but we store the window covers in an owner's closet in the rented house. We have not had to worry about this for ten years, but we have talked about doing a dry run checking how difficult it is to put them up.....well hopefully we can practice this winter.
