Endured the TN/TX A&M game with rabid TN fans, good time but TN fell in overtime after making another miraculous comeback and my beloved UK team beat Vandy which is totally weird . . .

Today the UWF Argos travel to Cleveland, Mississippi to play the Delta State Statesmen. I purchased my game pass and will watch a live feed hosted by Stretch Internet.

I will probably follow the UF/Missouri game going on at the same time.

Game time is 3:00 PM for both.

Actually, Delta State is the Fighting Okra. Laughing (unofficially dubbed by the student body) My son, while not a student there, loves okra so he has the t-shirt.

Go UWF!

Two uwf tennis players just won a doubles national championship today. It's quite the accomplishment to win any national title.

In other college football news, Vandy beat UGA, 17-16 in Athens, on Georgia's homecoming day!

The UWF Argos fell to the Delta State Statesmen, 55-51.

What a shoot-out this was. It was as much or more fun to watch than a D-1  game.

UWF scored on their first possession and marched all over the field. 12 minutes into the first quarter, it was 27-7, UWF. Delta State came roaring back, and 5 minutes into the second quarter, it was 28-27, Delta State.

The score see-sawed back and forth thereafter, but in the 3rd quarter, UWF blocked a punt, and returned it for a score, then made a FG on their next possession. I thought a 9 point lead would be comfortable enough, but Delta State scored again, narrowing the lead.

With 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter, Delta State sacked UWF's quarterback and stripped and recovered the ball. They were deep enough into UWF territory to score and hold on to the end.

The Delta State game announcers had noteworthy praise for the Argos in their game summary, saying they will be contenders within the Gulf South Conference. The Argos are very good for a first-year team; hats off to Coach Pete Schinnick!

Coach Shinnick needs to hone the discipline of the Argos players. They had at least six 15-yard penalties yesterday in their game against Delta State, for personal fouls, unsportsmanlike conduct, and even one for sideline encroachment that was called. Their best receiver was penalized and then ejected from the game during the 3rd quarter for throwing a kick at a Delta State defensive lineman who pushed him out of bounds.

I am sure there was a lot of jaw-jacking going on, aimed at the new upstarts, but they need to show their wrath in their play instead of their conduct.

No doubt that Delta State will become a fierce rival of the Argos after this game.

Next week they play Shorter at the Maritime Park.

Amazing video having ESPN televise the game. The announcers are really plugging the Maritime Park and its beautiful setting. Pensacola is being raved about, too.

I will enjoy watching this game. I am beginning to really like the UWF Argos as a football team.

The halftime score is UWF 10/Shorter 0. The Argos have been helped by at least two calls that went their way, but which most likely would have been overturned by a replay official in the FBS.

Nonetheless, having this game professionally televised and announced by ESPN has done more for the  Pensacola area than a year's worth of marketing by  the Chamber of Commerce. It's done more than the baseball team, and more than anything else.

The announcers have been swooning over the setting on the bay, over the beauty of the park, how big football is in northwest Florida, among many other plugs about our area.

They are also plugging UWF and how their nascent football program has gotten off to a great start.

The Argos win, 36-0.

They played horribly sloppy against a winless team, and the officiating was the worst I have ever seen.

In the last minute of the game, a shorter punt was muffed by the UWF receiver and recovered by Shorter in UWF's red-zone. But, because an official had mistakenly blown the play dead before the play was dead, they forced a re-kick. It should have been a shorter football on about UWF's 15 yard line, which would give them a final opportunity to score.

It was the Argos first homecoming game.

Let's hope Coach Shinnick hangs around for at least a couple of years. The ESPN announcers were also hyping him and his heritage (his dad was apparently a pro-coach). Shinnick will not coach within Division II very long.

The TV cameras must have panned every advertisement on the fence of the Maritime Park during the game. That is free advertising for local businesses. Kids from everywhere are going to want to come to Pensacola and play for UWF. Look for them to become a powerhouse in the Gulf South Conference.

UWF football is going to have a bigger impact in promoting Pensacola and the Maritime Park stadium than the baseball team will.

Pkr and Joanie...it was a good game.  FSU has some big boys.  That #44 was swatting down DeShaun's passes like badminton. Laughing

UWF lost to West Alabama at the Maritime Park Saturday also. I mistakenly changed the channel during the last 5 minutes of the FSU/Clemson game. I was kinda footballed-out at that point, after following UWF/WA, UF/GA, and then FSU/Clemson. I never would have believed an ending like what happened.

Congrats to Shewrites; so-sorry to Joanie.
