No more FaceTime with the honey back home while on deployment. It is about time modern Marines suffer the same communications-deprivations I had to suffer when deployed. It was heavenly to get in a 3-minute (scratchy) MARS call every few months while on deployment to Okinawa.

The CMC is concerned because cell phones are emitters and give away locations to potential enemies.

Where are we in a hot war? I get having the ability to go silent on cell phones, but a person is sitting in a military base using a phone and the enemy does not know where the base is? I get a deployment, but wtf........where is a hot war at?

Absolutely correct. War was made a thing of the past by President Obama.
No American in uniform has been in any kind of combat situation since he took office. And if anyone disagrees with me and you on this, they've just been brainwashed by Fox News.

It's because this generation has to text, snapchat, and video every freaking thing that they do. Social media like FB uses location and YES the enemy can look at how many posts are coming from an area on FB and determine the approximate strength of forces at a location. The enemy can also get grid coordinates as well using Google Earth on a location.

I have a vivid imagination, and for the life of me I can think of no enemy which can even triangulate a missile attack, let alone using other sophisticated methods......we are not even fighting another nation...we are fighting tribal interests, criminals, and individuals........it is absurd that for so long we have had a 30 to 1 advantage and think this is war......it is slaughter. Sadly when we engage a real enemy at 1-1 or 2-1 or even the traditional kill ratio of 3-1, we will be clueless because our military has simply been the sales division of MIC and has NOT engaged in anything but one sided slaughter, until there is an ambush while occupying another nation. Cell phones.....hell......get the hell out of the middle east.

I agree; however we are there because the elites who rule us want to control the remaining oil interests in the world. They know that oil is what makes the developed world "go." They will control the resource by engaging in military action wherever oil can be found. Then, they will restrict its use by promoting arguments such as climate change.

Bingo...Being I used to be a radio traffic analyst back in the day. I can assure you that vast amounts of important data can be determined from even encrypted radio traffic. SIGINT Today cell phones are monitored in much the same way..Many time the data is used in conjunction with other sources.
